Amazon out of Gift Set!

Today is brought to you by the letter "E".

It's the first letter in the word "Estimate".

This word is in every order that has ever been placed at Amazon.

It does not mean "Guaranteed".

Also,if you ordered individual books then they will ship on time. Plenty were made.

I understand it's an estimate but I preordered the individual books on March 6 and have had and estimated shipping date of July 21st ever since.
I don't get it. Even people who are on backorder will get theirs ahead of me.

I feel strangely compelled to cancel my gift set and buy...I dunno...some new Nike shoes or something.

[Edit: With all the spam gone, the joke's no longer amusing...in case it ever was. Good job mods dealing with that so early on a Sunday morning.]

Your joke was amusing :)

WTH? This happened tosomeone I know. Many people who had ordered since Feb never got their Gift set; amazon now says they will have it in stock on June 16!!

I was none too happy with this. I did what I should have done to begin with, and bought my copy at my FLGS. They just moved to a new location, so I'm sure they needed the funds anyway.

I ordered them on February 22, unsure if I wanted to actually buy the books, but since the price was just too good, I decided to keep my order.

I have Amazon Prime and my copy of the gift set shipped on June 6.

At the end of April, if I remember correctly, I added a gift certificate to pay for the books and my pre-order discount disappeared. I emailed Amazon and they fixed it by lowering the price of the books.

When the price went down further, the pre-order discount appeared again along with the new price.

From past experiences with Amazon, I know that changing shipping or even looking at the shipping options sometimes messes up your ship date, so I knew better than to mess around with that, even though I was tempted to change it to one-day shipping.

Anyways... my question to those who ordered before me or around the same time (February 22)... did you change your shipping, billing, or any other detail of your order? Perhaps to go from free shipping to standard or to two-day?

I was thinking that maybe they shipped out to Amazon Prime members first, but I read that some of those were even delayed.

I pre-ordered the gift set on February 28th from Amazon and just got notice today the order won't arrive anywhere from June 16th to July 1st.

Personally, this is the last time I order anything from Amazon. For whatever reason, they can never get my orders out on time. I had ordered a cd from them once, that was supposed to be in stock. Eight months later and I no longer recall how many times the shipping date was changed, they cancelled the order saying the cd wasn't in stock.

I don't think the mess of being out of gift setss is all WOTC's fault due to a higher than anticipated demand, rather I think Amazon has a (insert long string of grandma unfriendly expletives here) inventory and shipping system.

Luckily enough, I don't need the 4e books immeadiately, I ordered them to add to my collection of D&D editions, not necessarily to play with right away as I'm not currently playing anything D&D / D20 related.

I canceled my order. Then I went out to buy a set but my main comic shop was sold out. I made it to the games shop in the local old town and found 4 people loitering over the last few copies they had. I had to take the books out of their hands (politely, "You guys buying them?") in order to purchase them but at least I got them. Paid full price to. :(

Same for me. Preordered 3/1/08, got screwed. Made sure to let them know exactly why I was canceling that order too. I had talked to someone on the phone at amazon the night before who told me my order was being prepared right then and it would ship from Lexington. Next day had the email telling me nothing till the 16th. I went and paid full price w/my FLGS and got a dungeon tile and 3 minis thrown in as his promotion.
