America gets crappy Adultswim

First Post
So i'm in jamaica and on our first night there I find the cartoon network (yeah my priorities are really in order). Well I start watching adult swim and the lineup is amazing. First there's new episodes of inyusha where there up against these five super warriors. Then after that, another cool anime came on that had a very d and d lodoss war/ slayers feel to it (but obviously new). THen the lineup ends with some reruns end with some reruns of pokemon.

When i got back to the states, i looked to see this new lineup and we still got the same crappy one. Anyone know what the deal is with that? Why is there different programming?

Because I think the american demographic for anime tends to like watching crapply shows that brain washes you into purchasing headbands, gloves, and other lame articles of clothing that otakus and little chidren crave.

So do other countries get a different AdultSwim that spurs them on to rich philosophical discussions around the dinner table or educate and prepare then for meaningful careers?

Just curious, which line-up are you referring to as crappy? The saturday night anime heavy lineup, the Sunday night primarily Adult Swim owned shows, or the weekday grab bag?

Saturday night/Sunday AM - the only show that has my interested is Bleach.

Interesting. I generally only watch Adult Swim for some of the comedy shows. I enjoy the syndication of Futurama and Family Guy (though they are growing stale considering I've been watching for years...) as well as many of the original shows like Aqua Teen, Sea Lab, Harvey Birdman (RIP), and particularly Moral Orel. However, I could do without all of the trashy stuff they've produced lately (Saul of the Molemen, Tom Goes to Mayor and that other show those fellows made recently).

On the note of anime, I guess I don't really have too strong of an opinion. I really don't watch all that much anime and can't get into a lot of what seems popular on Adult Swim - Inuyasha, Samurai Champloo, Naruto, etc. Mostly, because I am just not that into ninjas and samurai as depicted on those shows (however, I love me some Ninja Scroll). My favorite animes that have been shown on Adult Swim would be Trigun, Lupin III, and the first half of Blue Gender.

I'm rather odd ;).

No idea on why, I just know they do. Different countries have different Adult Swims with their own scheduling. I suspect it has to do with licensing issues.

Cartoon Network finished its Inuyasha run some time ago. AFAIK, there aren't any new Inuyashas. You may have missed the final episodes because they aired them during the weekday instead of weekend.

As to CN itself, they've been airing far too many non-toon related movies and shows (Saul of the Molemen and the crappy new show from the crappy guys behind the crappy Tom Goes To The Mayor) for my taste. With Harvey Birdman gone and Venture Bros in reruns (and no sign of Korgoth of Barbaria), the only things I'm currently watching are Naruto and Bleach (although I still occasionally check out Foster's Home For Imaginary Friends).

I'm pretty sure Venture Bros. is in for a new season in the fall. As for Korgoth - I heard that never got picked up.

Yeah, Inuyasha fought the "super warriors" a year or two ago.

And I'm not too burned-up about Jamaicans getting an extra helping of Pokemon reruns. They can have'em all!
