I started playing D&D over 20 years ago. I have copies of Dragon Magazine from that time period. I've glanced through issues of Dungeon here and there, but it never really grabbed me. With the latest format, I picked up a few issues and was thrilled. When my Dragon sub came up for renewal in December I added a Dungeon sub as well, for the first time ever. I've read more issues of Dungeon in the past 8 months than I have in the previous 20 years.

Where did some people get the idea that every single page of a magazine must be to their liking? There are certainly a few articles in each issue that just are not for me, but overall the entire issue is always worth the price paid. I'm very pleased with both magazines, and see myself subscribing for the foreseeable future.

Also, Erik, you have defended your position well. Thanks for joining in the discussions here. It is clear that your heart is set on putting out the best magazine possible, and we certianly appreciate it.

On edit: Forgot to mention that Erik's passion has convinced me to give Downer another chance. Part of the problem is that I feel behind on the story. I see that Kyle has several of them on his website, but nothing before episode 18.

Any chance of getting earlier episodes posted somewhere, either on paizo or Kyle's site?

HOnestly I have a long trip to chicago this weekend. I am going to go back and try to read it. Im a big comic book fan and the purples and dark colors really drag me down, then there was that whole thing with the statue. But Erik really took up for downer so i'm going to try to figure it out. I will admit I havn't even tried to read it the last two issues because I was lost. Perhaps once a year there could be some write up on the story so far, or is there a website?

Better yet perhaps someone on here can break it down at least up until this point? I know DOwner's the main guy and then i see his brother and recently they were fighting githyanki on the astral plane and one of them stayed, but i got lost from there.

Thanks for all the positive messages, guys. It's been a stressful couple of days, and it's nice to be appreciated. :)

Downer is admittedly difficult to follow. Ironically, the last few issues have seen a more episodic format designed to make the strip more accessible. Kyle has a very large story to tell, but the first year's worth of stories aren't paced very well. There are too many characters and too much detail to make sense of the strip individually.

The whole thing stands up much, much better when it is read all in one sitting.

We published a "story so far" article in Dungeon #116. You might find that to be a good entry point, but the best entry point is the very first episode.

We will likely recap the story so far in comic form within the next six episodes, once Downer has delivered the Ulolok to the dragon.

I'd like to add my echo of thanks to the crew.

Regardless of who's decision it was (not following all the threads), I think getting rid of Wil Save was a good idea. And while I'll admit that I don't like Downer either, the spread of adventure levels and lengths and the addition of backdrops are what makes the current version of Dungeon rock so hard. And I like the short campaign articles too.

And though overall Dungeon is more the magazine for me than Dragon, I have noticed several positive changes in Dragon since you took over.

In short, Erik, keep up the good work -- both magazines have improved markedly while you've been at the helm.

I don't think anybody was really slamming Erik. There was a rant by the whiners who got upset Erik called them whiners - but that was it.

The vitriol was being heaped - as usual - on Wil.

For what it's worth though - I extend thanks to Erik, James Jacobs, Robert Head and Keith Strohm and the whole crew.

Despite the sideshow over Wil, Dungeon #124 is the best issue of Dungeon I've ever read...

And I've read em all. :D

Worrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrd.

Excellent adventures have popped up in Dungeon for years, but now the format makes the whole damn thing just so...consistent.

Keep on a rockin' Erik!
