Hmmm.... shouldn't a female Dungeon Master be named Dungeon Mistress???

I prefer Game Goddess, myself ;)

And not only am I a female GM (or GG), I also design games. That throws off a lot of the boys at the conventions, for some reason. I either get this look like "OMG! I chick that designs games!" or a perplexed "Oh, so you think you can design games" look. People forget who created Dragonlance, I guess....

My ex boyfriend specifically recruited me to game with his group so I could learn the rules and run games. When we broke up, his friends continued to play in my games. I suppose that is the biggest testament to my Gming.

Dungeon Mistress checking in!

I have run several games in the past and am currently running an all male (except for little ol' me) Forgotten Realms game, and am going to take over in about a month, for my husband, another game (again all men except for me) to the Planescape setting.

I am the Dungeon Mistress! Hear me Roar!

Heh.

I dunno...Dungeon Mistress sounds like something that goes along with black leather, whips, and boots. :)

Not that that's a bad thing, mind you...but it DOES tend to veer things away from D&D!

Female GM checking in. My current campaign is 2+ years old and still going strong. The old group I used to game with had a husband and wife team who alternated between being the DM and playing. Both were great DMs. By God, I miss that group!

No more than a female ogre should be called an ogress, a female elf called an elfess, or a female master sergeant called a mistress sergeant.

Which is to say that no, they shouldn't. At all.

Anyway, to answer the original question - yep, I've known my share of female DMs in my time. Easily the best Rifts DM I've ever know is a lady, for example.

Haven't ever played under a female GM, myself.

I only recently got my wife to play. She's "gamed" for a very long time, but the tactical nature of 3.5 seemed to really turn her off, so she'd hang out and role play but when combat started she'd wander off to chat on the internet and I'd end up having to run her PC.

Recently she's been gaming with me, both of us as players, and seems to be really liking it. The difference? MORE tactical wargame action. Our new group is in love with Hirst Arts terrain, and so is the wife. So perhaps when we have our own massive collection of buildings and dungeon walls she'll decide to run something.

I've always considered ogress a proper term for a female ogre.

As for seeing women DMs, that depends, I played in one of Kahuna Burger's pbp games here, but since it was a pbp game I never saw her. :)
