Anybody out there play Paranoia?

the best part of the game is the grenades, and possibly R&D. The grenades are so cool... with the blast radius so big that it is impossible to throw them far enough... heheheh... and R&D is just cool...

"The Computer doesn't like you. You must report to R&D"

*Goes to R&D, is given black backpack with little cord coming out of the side attatched to a little joystick with a button on the top*

"What does this do?"

"If you press the button you can find out."

*Player tries to get out of backpack, but can't. Its attatched. Party leaves, gets into combat. They run out of options*

"Hey guys? I think this a good time to press the button. OK?"

*Everyone else either makes a mad dash for cover or attemps to stop Player from pressing button. They fail*

CLICK!

*backpack opens*

"Gee, that kind of cool. What happens when I press it again?"

"NOOOOOOO!"

CLICK!

*backpack closes*

"Well, that still doesn't help..."

"NOOOOOOOOO!"

CLICK!

*nothing happesn*

"Stupid button!"

"NOOOOOOOOOO!"

BLAM!

*backpack explodes. Everyone dies*

I strongly recommend 2nd edition. The binding sucks, but the game is SO much more fun to read than the 5th edition. Worth every penny.

Note that there was no 3rd or 4th edition; go figure.

I recommend watching ebay. Good luck!

Agreed. 2nd edition all the way. Rules are better (Important only to the degree that actual rules matter to enjoying Paranoia) , and the art is MUCH better.

Just checked and there are seveal copies available on Ebay right now.

There is a 2nd Ed GM screen. It was sold as "An Excessory Pack" and included super swank Termination Vouchers (real forms in triplicate), Cardstock Commies, Character Sheets and the aforementioned GM screen.

As for who currently owns the rights, I emailed Greg C last year asking this same question. He informed me that he'd recently re-acquired the rights to Paranoia, so let's pray for a new edition soon!

If you want, I have a bunch of Paranoia adventures I've written over the years. Say the word, and I'll email one to ya.

WORD! (echo5ive@hotmail.com is my spambox, I'm very paranoid (ha!) about giving out my private address on public forums.)

I've never GM'ed or even played Paranoia, but I've read tons and tons of stuff about it and really want to give it a shot. I can always improvise some rules.

Famous last words: "Thank God for the Computer!"

Knowledge as to where one could purchase this "Paranoia" and for how many multicreds or Teela O-vids is most definately beyond your security clearance. Either try contacting your secret societies, throw a few bribes around, or check E-bay.

Paranoia d20 conversion anyone?

Hmm. I doubt a d20 conversion would work. Sure, you have the various Officers, but they're all of the Cannon Fodder class with different skills, really.

Well, simply assign each starting character 2-4 "levels", such as R&D, INTSec, VatCook, etc. Unlike D&D, HP don't increase (or increase at a very very slow rate) with level increases (or, better yet, just skip the entire HP mechanic).

Sure, it wouldn't exactly be Paranoia, but that's kinda the point ;).

You could apply Secret Societies as a template (certain requirements, certain skills become class skills, new abilities / weaknesses), and mutant powers could either by as a class or template based off of Wisdom or some such.

I'm afraid I don't know too much about the legality of such a setup, but if its not intellectual infringement, well, -somebody- should go for it.
