I wasn't sure at first, but I guess I am a grognard after all. I've played Risk, Stratego, and Axix and Allies. Still have Risk and A&A.
I still remember bugging my older brother and his friends to let me play Risk with them. Good times.

Although I collect minis and enjoy Heroscape which is a skirmish/boardgame and LotR Risk, I haven't played a true wargame such as Warhammer for about 20 years. So, no, I'm not a grognard. I remember when Warhammer came out though. Does that count?

By the definition of wargames first then to OD&D, I guess I'm a grognard. I emphasise wargames first because I think it formed a certain view of games different than introduction to games first via RPG then to wargames. I know that sounds really closed-minded (so extra grognard points?) but by going from wargames to RPGs some thought you left the fold back in the day.

Played way too many games of Blitzkrieg and Squad Leader and could probably play the latter today without looking at the rules. Call me comrade as I always played the Russians, oh I despise Steiner! Can anyone say -2 for open ground?

Squad Leader was my fisrt RPG in that we played through all the scenarios and decided to let leaders that survived get a little better. We were perfectly primed for D&D when it came to our attention.

To this day I still tend to shy away from calling myself a "grognard" as to me it still has the perjorative meaning of the late 70s. I also cringe today when it is used as some form of chest beating instead of just a description of how you got into RPGs.

Ah, Star Fleet Battles... I've played it far too many times against my dad, who has ALWAYS beat me with his fuggin' Kzinti battle cruisers. I think everytime I hear the word "Drone" a part of me deep inside goes into a panic.

Good game, though.

I've played that and DIPLOMACY, but not really too many of the others. I think "grognardism" isn't really my thing...

I guess Im a grognard too then. I remember huge SFBs where we had to use Cheerios because we ran out of drone counters for the Kzinti cruisers.

Was a Federation man myself.

I started with Airfix plastic figures and the rules from Don Featherstone's books (Wargames, Advanced Wargames, etc) before I played D&D. I also got Squad Leader around that sort of time as well.

Yes, I'm a grognard... I played Panzer Leader as a child with a friend (not that we really understood all the rules). The first wargame I ever bought was Squad Leader (right when it came out). Many, many other wargames followed. We probably played wargames at least as much as RPGs back then.

I'm trying to get into Confrontation, but the rules are so difficult to follow due to the translations and I have not found a place to play regularly. So, looks like it's Warmachine for me..

Strange that no one seems to have said this in the thread so far, so just to be different, I'll say: no. Absolutely not. I have never enjoyed wargaming or strategy based stuff (or powergaming for that matter). Plenty of my friends do, but not me. Actually I find it all rather boring.... But this is personal only.
