Weapon: Disintegrator heavy rifle
Type: Negative
Save DC: Fort damage
Damage per setting: d8
Maximum setting: 5
Charges per setting: 16
Critical: x2
Range increment: 50
ROF: 1
Weight: 15 lbs
Price: 80,000

Frequently used by assassins employed by members of certain, well-connected families, the disintegrator emits a thin, green ray that causes the target to glow briefly and then suddenly vanish. A trace of fine dust is all that remains of the victim. The weapon's retort is a harsh scratching, similar to fingernails dragged across a chalkboard. Whereas this weapon does not leave behind a body for police and others to discover, most jurisdictions have banned it as unduly thwarting the efforts of law enforcement investigators.

Unlike other firearms, the disintegrator does not inflict hit point damage. Instead, the result of the "damage" roll, minus the damage reduction enjoyed by the target, sets the DC for the victim's Fortitude save to resist the effects. If the target succeeds at the save, he takes hit point damage equal to the DC of the save. If the target fails the save, he is immediately disintegrated and quite dead.

If used against inanimate matter, the weapon disintegrates one cubic foot per point of damage.

Uhh, no offense

I would think that a reflex save to avoid damage or be disintegrated would be more appropriate for the weapon. That's just my opinion of course. A bit powerful, but it could be useful in my Omega World campaign. Instant character death always sucks though.

I'd really be interested in seeing a preview of your armors for the game. The cover for the book has a cleric or paladin in some cool looking anime type armor, are there stats for that you can share with us?

save type

Robotron,

No offense taken! I enjoy the feedback. And, of course, GMs are free to alter the equipment as they please.

The disintegrate spell has a Fortitude save. Also, the shooter must succeed at an attack roll to hit the target, which would seem to argue against a Reflex save.

The disintegrator heavy rifle costs 80,000gp, which means that you wouldn't expect any character less than 12th level to have one (11th level wizards can cast disintegrate). Add to that the high cost per shot (16 charges). Yes, it's still a very powerful weapon and one that should send shivers down anyone's spine, but it seems appropriate for high-level characters.

Armor: I may be adding some armor info to the website in the future.

Yeah the entry lacks spirit

Interesting concepts. The writing seems a bit weak, though.

I'd agree that the entry lacks punch, but it's the first example of a weapon. I'm interested to see what this supplement will have to offer. I dig guns, and the anime/fantasy/sci-fi angle is very appealing from a rifts/omega world/ make my own campaign up kind of perspective.

I just hope they have rules for mecha somewhere in that book.

Point taken, hell it basically should be a ranged touch attack with no AC bonus. So yeah, I can see why the fort save is more appropriate. If you succeed you still take 5d8 damage, which is nothing to laugh it no matter what level you are.

So how would this raygun affect undead? Since they have no fort save. Would they be disintegrated automatically, or does it have no effect?

Looking for his pulse rifle.... Oh! There it is.
