What is your AC, or the average AC, of a character at 10th lvl? I have 3 characters in my campaing that, IMHO are impossible to hit. They have between 27 and 29.

It might be easier to reply if you listed their classes, equipment, ability scores, etc. Perhaps they have better equipment than they should for that level. Perhaps they are using alot of buff spells. Whatever. For each case, there are many ways to get around some of those high AC's. For example, if much of the AC is from armor, make liberal use of touch attacks.

Hrm

That seems high by a good 5-7 points of AC each from the games I run/play in. It sounds like your PCs were either given too much magic, are stacking bonuses they shouldn't be, or are just super munchkins.

hmmm... that sounds a wee bit on the high side.

Most of the arrmor/shield combinations in the PHB "cap out" at around a non-magical figure of 20

If these guys are using expertise - yeah, it's quite possible to get an AC in this range - but they ARE taking -5 on their to hit rolls.

Again - it would help if We could literally "see the character sheets" in question.

I have a Rogue 11 with AC24, a Fighter 9 with AC21 and a Fighter/Duelist 9 with AC27 (get's Int and Dex to AC). Not 10th level exactly, but...

Like was said earlier, it depends on how they have such a high AC. My Duelist has such a high AC because he gets his INT to AC. Other than that, low to mid 20's is about right for us.

You get your int to AC when fighting UNARMORED. From the sounds of things, it seems quite feasible that you too are miscalculating your AC or have exceptionally powerful magic items.

The best AC I could see a fighter/duelist having at 9 without magic items is 20 (10 +5dex +5int), that's assuming you were 1) an elf with starting 20dex and 18 intelligence and 2) put your remaining points into intelligence. Making up 7 points with magical items is quite a lot.

IIRC - dodge and expertise are prereq to the Duelist class...

A stat boosting magic items at 10th level (particurlarly gloves of dexterity +4 at 16k) aren't unreasonable at 9th level if they don't have any armor at all.

Also ... nothing I know of says a duelist can't use a magic shield... If I remember the class right.

Ok, here are 2 of my players

First - Paladin/ftr/Knight 6/1/3
Dex 12 = +1
Full Plate +1 = 9 armor
great steel shield = 2 armor
amulet natural armor +1 = 1 natural
ring of protection +1 = 1 deflection
AC = 24
When the cleric cast Magical Vestent on his shield
his AC = 27

Second - cleric lvl 10
Dex 10 = 0
Gauntlet of dexterity +2 = +1
Full Plate +3 = 11 armor
Large Steel Shield = +2 armor
ring of protection +1 = 1 deflection
amulet natural armor +1 = 1 natural
AC = 26
When the cleric cast Magical Vestent on his shield
his AC = 29

Also, tell me if I'm right, when a PC want to upgrade his armor/weapon bonus, I let them pay a wizard to do it. The price, in that case, is the difference between what he has with what he want. Is that how we can do it?

Yes. That's the correct way of doing it.

For example, to upgrade a +1 sword to a +3 sword, you pay the difference between a +1 enhancement and a +3 enhancement. In this case, it's 18,000 - 2000 = 16,000 gp.
