On another note - how does Helo not think, "They must be trying to keep me alive" now - he *has* to suspect that something strange is going on, now...doesn't he?

He's in a pretty unique situation. Who knows what kind of delusions that type of stress may cause.

how would she have known that Adama was even on her tail?

Adama was doing quite a bit of shooting, so Starbuck had plenty of evidence of his position... As a pilot/instructor she knows standard tactics used by the pilots of the Galactica, and has flown with Apollo enough to recognize his style.

I liked everything but the patch of cloth apparently standing up to vaccuum, and Starbuck's amazing ability to fly incredibly well without any sensors but her own eyes - a little fishy.
Keep in mind that it's not a 'patch of cloth' but her flightsuit, which should be able to stand up to vacuum.

Sure it would...if it were attached to the rest of the flight suit. But it was just shoved in a hole - no matter the tensile strength of the cloth used, it still would have been sucked out because there was nothing keeping it there but a limited amount of friction.

As I said before, it's not that this stuff can't be explained away - it's just that it *wasn't* explained in the show, leaving us to do the logical stretching for them.

I couldn't suspend disbelief anymore when she fixed up the Cylon and flew it out by squeeizing dead organs and stuff like that. The deal with the jacket was the icing on the cake...or maybe finding the Galactica w/o any instruments was. It just didn't work for me.

The organs were obviously not dead. The ship was brain dead due to the damage it had sustained, but the remainder of it was alive and well.

The ship seemed to be both alive and machine. Almost the cylons adaptation of the human clones in space. If it was truely and only biological, wouldn't the death and then removal of the brain have shut off the systems and all it's uses.

So for me I can fudge around and make a plausible reason she could have had a working ship.

Tearing cloth off her suit and pushing it into the whole... not plausibe. Yes, she could have done a better patch job, but with what? Not to mention why show so much about the cloth being shoved in if she just had to redo it with a better patch job?

For her flying.... she's great, the best, and relies on instinct. She knows apollos flying style and tactics, and she only did one or two complex manuvers. Mostly she just seemed to weave back and forth heading as quickly as possible for galactica.

The paint.... maybe some of the other parts she ripped out of the ship had orange/yellow goo on it. It did make it better that we didn't see her painting the ship before hand. It made for a better surprise and confusion about what she was saying and her reasoning until she flipped the ship.

We also didn't see her tape her name to the underside of the fuselage. Inferences can be made from information given - the entire mystery and horror genres are built around the idea of witholding information from the viewer/reader. Showing every step along the character's path would be dull as dishwater, not to mention take too long for a one hour time limit.

It wasn't paint; it was tape/bandages. She used the exact same color bandage/tape to tape up her knee right after the crash.
