Battlestar Galactica February 4, 2005. Spoiler Talk

It showed us something we didn't already know about the cylons (biotech)
Yeah, because being able to make robots that are indistinguishable from humans, but still aren't human clones (the whole mind-transfer thing, for instance), doesn't indicate any biotech skills at all :)

I watched twice more. Once when they played the encore, and again on tape. The whole taping "Star Buck" to the bottom of the ship bothered me a bit, because she would have had to do that before cutting her way in. Also, as was pointed out by another she out flew Apollo while having only a little bitty window to look through. I think I would have enjoyed the episode more if they would have just added a little more to fixing the ship. Perhaps just a scene showing her re-entering the ship which would imply that she went out and patched the hole (and/or went out to tape her name on the bottom) and they easily could have changed the inside slightly so there were actual controls and not just connective tissue and organs.

Oh well, I still enjoyed the way the show looks. :)

Their ships. Before this episode, I had assumed the ships were all robotic.

I guess they had the problem with a single episode not being longer than 45 minutes (or so). The details about how she got away is not THAT important - the focus was more on the Battlestar and its crew - mainly Adama and Apollos unwillingness to accept their loss.

So for the want of more commericals the story details were lost.
For the want of story details the great story was lost.

We also didn't see her tape her name to the underside of the fuselage. Inferences can be made from information given - the entire mystery and horror genres are built around the idea of witholding information from the viewer/reader. Showing every step along the character's path would be dull as dishwater, not to mention take too long for a one hour time limit.
Hey - I'm happy for you if you were satisfied with how several things that seemed extraordinarily implausible to me were resolved.
:)

But I wasn't.

While I am well aware that showing every second of time passing in every episode would be both boring and impossible, the complaints I listed were not even hinted at - they have been created out of the imaginations of viewers (whole cloth!) without any even vague inference on the parts of the writers. You might call that "building suspense" (and if you do, I'm happy for you - you probably see a *lot* of good TV) but I call it "lazy writing."

Did it ruin the episode? No. I won't go that far.

But did it ruin part of the episode? Yeah. I'll stick to that.

Yeah. The episode should have been 45 hours long, since that was how much oxygen Strabuck had. Then we could have picked over every single step she took.

Oh, wait, then we wouldn't see what Adama and Apollo were up to. Make it 90 hours long then.

You just overloaded my sarcasm-o-meter. You owe me $19.95 for a new one.
