From a dungeon mastering perspective: Tomb of Horrors. A thing of beauty. Grab six friends, roll up some 15th level characters, start adventuring. Check back in two to four hours and laugh about which character died where, and in what condition of undress, gender, alignment, or physical state (solid, liquid, gas). Mmmmmm ... juggernauts.
From a player perspective: a toss-up between the Slavers/Giants/Drow/Shrine/Queen series (for sheer SCOPE!) and White Plume Mountain. Alright, fine, White Plume Mountain: vampires, kelpies, giant crustaceans, the old burning-arrow-lights-the-oil-on-fire trick, boiling mud (boiling mud!), inverted ziggurat (it's just fun to say), three drool-worthy magic weapons, and the implication of still more mystery awaiting resolution. It required brains, brawn, magic, luck, a sense of humor. What's not to love?
