Best way to kill a dragon?

Another combo I was thinking of would be Evard's Black Tentecles. It summons 1d4+1 per caster lvl tentecles, menaing i'd summon 1d4+12. They all do 1d6+4 dmg and do a grappling attack every round. If I cast it under the dragon, he'd recieve 14(average) tentecle attacks every round plus they'd all be grappling. I was thinking maybe enervation and the sucking touch combo after that. Or maybe just go all out dmg. I could also do spectral hand, vampiric touches.... I dunno, a lot of possiblities here. Lemme know what you think and if you can add to it

Enervation is definetly a good thought. Also, vampiric touch, considering it has no chance of saving. only SR with that one, Speaking of which, while I was fighitng the other dragon, I maximize vampiric touched him, rolled a 20 for crit and also did 7d6 dmg sneak attack, for a total of 111, which means I also gained 111 hp. My character has over 210 hp going into the battle.

you cannot gain more hit points than 10+ your current hit points read the spell. Also you do not get a sneak attack nor a critical on a spell if you got a natural 20. Sorry that just means you managed to touch the creature nothing more..

take those off..

My mage has 100+ hp, and you do double dmg on a 20 on any spell that requires a attack roll. And you also sneak attack on any spell that requires an attack roll and does dmg.
So everything I did is legit. Please state phb, dmg, t+b, to show how I am wrong

These are both incorrect. Vampiric touch says you cannot gain more than the SUBJECT'S current HP +10. As to the second, see page 123 of the PHB under critical hits, under spells and critical hits.

ok people, thanks for the advice and all. but the only thing I am asking for is good combo's for spells. My character is in an enraged state oover the loss of a companion, and is blindly going into battle. His only purpose on this world is to fly up and slay the beast. No reasoning will change his purpose.

With that said, I ask again. What are some really good tactical spells I could use?

Translation: you are committing suicide. Simple enough. Why waste any time on preparation, you are guaranteed to die anyway, unless your DM is completely incompetent or a pushover.

Not to be insulting, but a 15th level character is little more than a snack for an ancient red. Let's see some stats here.

CR 22.
AC 39
HP 527.
SR 28.
Breath Weapon: 20 d10, DC 35
Saves: +28 +19 +26
DR 15 +2
15th level caster.

You simply don't have the chance of a snowball in a blast furnace. You can't hit it. Your spells likely won't work. Even if you did hit and sneak attack it every time you would take 20 shots to kill it.
The main issue I have is why the Red ran away in the first place. It could have easily stayed and made mincemeat of you. Is your DM named Mr. Haul by chance?

Properly played, an ancient red dragon will never be tricked with improved invisibility, and you have no reasonable chance of defeating it without some serious magics and/or allies.

1) For sneak attack damage: Flank it. If you have bluff, feint it.

2) Hope Mystra is sending a few minions your way to help, along with other local forces in the area that want the dragon dead.

3) In my opinion, the chance of affecting the dragon with a spell is slim, so concentrate on boosting your own forces.

4) Use every item and spell of summoning you have to give you as many allies as possible. (such as stone of commanding earth elementals).

5) Use every beneficial spell you have on yourself and allies, especially Bull's Strength, Cat Grace, Haste, Fireshield.

6) Summon a small earth elemental to scout the lair. If you use clairvoyance the dragon will see and probably dispel it.

7) Plane Shift into the lair so it doesnt see you coming. That should give you a surprise partial action.

That's all I can think of, but I've no idea what your character has available and I haven't had my coffee yet :) Good luck...

subject is you isn't it? Never mind I checked the spell you=right!

. And critical hits does what to the spell? I don't have my book in front of me.

and since when do you get sneak attacks with a touch spell unless the creature is flatfooted?

You can't set up ranged sneak attacks with flank because you can't flank with a ranged weapon. So sneak attack is pretty much going to be out. Besides, you don't have time to do enough hit point damage to kill him anyways.

If there was some way to sneak attack him, perhaps by casting blink on yourself (blink spell description says defenders lose their dex bonus, no dex bonus=sneak attack), then I'd say hit him with the Cold Ray option of Otiluke's Freezing Sphere as many times as you can. That will do 12d6 cold (doubled to 24d6, no save allowed), it's a touch attack so his AC is going to be around 6 or so before mage armor/shield, and you can do sneak attack or critical damage with it should you have someway to sneak attack. A critical hit would effectively do 48d6 damage to the bugger. Too bad you can't cast hunter's mercy.

So what can we do in reality? His SR of 28 means you need a 16 or better every time you try to effect him with a spell. That right there pretty much eliminates your effectiveness. There is a Relics and Rituals 4th level spell called Remove Resistance that you'd only need a 6 or better to hit him with but he gets a Fort Save to resist (game. set. match.). But it's nice to dream, cause if that worked, his SR would be down to 16 and you could pierce him on a 1 and enervate him until his negative levels equaled his hit dice and he keeled over. But you can't, so you're dead.
