Blink vs. Displacement

What're the main differences between Blink and Displacement? It seems like Blink is the better spell, but I'm not sure why there are two spells that have almost the same effect (aside from a 2E holdover).

With displacement for one thing you dont suffer a miss chance as you do with Blink. I believe Displacement also gives some sort of bonus on certain saves that blink may not but I dont remember all the details right off hand...

You cant actualy cast blink on others...whats the range on displacement I forget? is it Target:You or Touch or something?

The main difference is that Blink takes a third of a PHb page to describe, while Displacement needs only a paragraph.

But seriously...

Displacement just plain displaces you, and is foiled by True Seeing. Nothing ventured, nothing gained.

Blink actually cycles you in and out of the Etereal plane, allowing you to walk through solid objects, possibly avoid area-damage, etc. However, there's always the chance that your own spells will fail to affect physical targets, or that you'll get shunted through the wall and take damage. More powers, more chances for things to go wrong.

Displacement is for the puritans. Blink is for the gamblers.
