blowgun sneak attack

as far as the rules go, sneak attack applies to blowguns. so, a 20th level rogue would deal 1+10d6 damage with a blowgun on a sneak attack. an average of 31 points of damage from a two-inch steel needle seems excessive, though, don't you think?

As long as you're careful of potential collateral damage downrange when that dart blows all the way through the target, you should be OK...

Personally, Sneak Attack doesn't really make all that much sense anyway. If it really bothers you, you can simply house-rule it so that sneak-attack does not apply to attacks made with the blow-gun...

A two-inch steel needle shot straight into your jugular could cause massive blood loss, but not at all excessive in terms of D&D damage.

It's a 20th level character. Do you realize how ridiculously exceptional that guy is? He is landing that dart in the perfect spot to hit an artery/vein/pressure point/etc.

not to hijack my own thread, but i'm currently using a very interesting house rule for sneak attacks. for every 1d6 granted from sneak attack, instead add +1 to critical threat range. with the variant WP/VP system i'm using, it doesn't really decrease overall effectiveness, and it makes a lot more sense to me.

Sense? With hitpoints?

Darklone leaves for a moment to laugh somewhere else.

Ok. No offense meant by this post. Do you know these movies where people are cut in two halves with thrown poker cards? That's the game you play right now. D&D just doesn't provide realistic things in regard of combat.

It's a kind of magic.

Yup. Of course, to "remedy" this you could convert to True20 :)

...and it goes right into your eye.

Besides, have you ever seen someone actually fire a blowgun? If you are good, you can generally send the spike through plywood. Shooting it into someone's eye, up into their brain? Sure, 31 points of damage sounds fine.
