D&D 5E Booming blade and green flame blade for clerics

It doesn’t require a channel divinity. The push is optional. Otherwise it’s 6d8 per round + wpn + ability round after round. If they move you stack another 5d8 on top. If they don’t you lock them in place.

What are you using for the +15 besides + 5 for ability?

Try Booming Blade on tempest Cleric. IIRC at 17th level its weapon + ability + 2d8 thunder + 4d8 Booming Blade and then 5d8 if it moves, which it will since you will push it 10 ‘ with the classes other feature. Don’t have the books but I thinks that right.

Not quite - the domain ability that lets you push requires that you do Lightning damage, it doesn't work with Thunder damage. And it's +3d8 from Booming Blade at 17th level and 4d8 if they move. Plus, the movement that triggers Booming Blade has to be "willing". Forced movement doesn't trigger it.

So it's Weapon+5d8 thunder damage at lvl 17 - once per round. Plus 4d8 thunder damage if they willingly move.

Decent, but by no means a powerhouse combo. Sure you can maximize the Thunder Damage using your channel divinity, but you're usually better off using that on an AoE spell so you can do it to multiple targets (and get more dice of thunder damage).

It’s as much as you are going to get from BB as requested by OP, which is the point of the thread.

Maybe. Another thing you can do is use a Variant Human Arcana Domain Cleric. Use your feat to take Magic Initiate: Druid with Shillelagh as one of the cantrips (your choice for the other cantrip and 1st level spell). Take Booming Blade/Green Flame blade as your wizard cantrips from the Arcana Domain.

You don't get the extra +2d8 from the Tempest domain, but the Arcana domain lets you add your Wisdom modifier to damage with any Cleric cantrip at lvl 8 - which Booming Blade counts as for you, due to the 1st level domain feature.

So you get to use your Wisdom as the Attack and Damage stat with your 1d8 club or staff (and you don't need to pump a secondary stat), and you get to add your Wisdom modifier to damage a second time from the 8th level domain feature. At lvl 17 (assuming a 20 wis and a +2 staff, because why not) you have: +13 attack, 1d8+12+3d8 thunder damage, +4d8 if they move. And at lvl 17 it's quite likely to have found a +2 wis tome (another +1 att/+2 dam) or even a powerful magical staff (Staff of Thunder and Lightning, Staff of Power, etc.)

It's at least equivalent to the tempest version at lower levels due to double dipping on the Wis stat.

I didn’t assume any magic and no magic enhancements and your example was already posted. They would of course apply to mine example also resulting in no real difference worth talking about.

At that level I would be using spells anyway and be attacking with whatever I Gated in.

True. The real benefit to this version is using your Wisdom for everything. But it costs a feat to do so.

I was just pointing out that even with the two most optimized versions I'm aware of (Tempest and Arcana) clerics, it's not nearly as powerful as some people seem to think.

I have my own multi-class creation wizard barb, and with my current set-up this overpowers my level 5 character which thanks to this spell can dish out over 70 damage from a single attack. 18-20 crit 3d12+4 damage along with the great weapon mastery +10. Add in the d8, and d8+6 I have an insanely powerful build at level 5. Given that I don't have a single magical weapon without spells it's still insane. Don't complain about something not working because it isn't there. Grab it while it's there, and take advantage of everything, and if you have a cleric that can't dip into a class that can get this cantrip obviously you did something wrong.

During Strahd, I had an Arcane Cleric/Shadow Monk 5/4 with Defensive Duellist Feat that used GFB with his shortsword to good effect. A great little melee fighter and with an AC of 17/21

I'd cast Punk (Spirit) Guardians and then just jump in there to slash and headbutt. Unfortunately we didn't get to 10th. I was sooo looking forward to stunning Strahd with my headbutts as well.

You should probably post this combo so we can figure out exactly what you're doing. Casting GFB as a barbarian is obviously problematic, as you can't cast while raging.

I don't think you can have a legal character doing these at level 5. Please post.
