Break of Dawn [Manzanita judging] COMPLETED

Initiative order:
Eanos 19
Odno 19
Ally 11
Mordik 5
Quarion 4
Birds 3

The birds are about 40' away from Eanos, 70' from the rest.
Eanos and Odno react at the same time.

OOC: I had myself turned around, and for some reason had myself thinking the birds were on a building on the party's side of the gorge. If you don't mind, I'll amend to have Eanos moving back to the party rather than crossing--still full defense as he retreats (though I believe he'll able to return this round, before the birds can attack. But we've seen how limited my spacial reasoning is ;) ).

Eanos moves acress the bridge while he wards himself from any birds attacking him.Eanos , seeing the birds acend from the structure and descend on him, turns around and moves back to the rest while defending himself.
Odno readies a psionic attack against the birds.
Ally fetches her crossbow and loads it to get a shot at the birds.
Mordik does... nothing?
Quarion shoots one of the birds straight out of the sky.
The birds retreat back to the structure and hide behind various pieces of stone.

Back to you guys!

stupid birds... waste of a good natural 20...

"I did not expect it after our recent experiences with animals, hellish or not" says Odno. "Looks like they'll only attack those exposed crossing the chasm, and hide whenever they can't find a vulnerable target. And looking how they hide and not merely move away, I'd say they have some concept of the workings of ranged attacks, if that's possible for an animal and not merely an anthropomorphic projection of what may be instinctive behaviour."

"Should we send someone to the bridge, hoping to attract them, while we prepare our crossbows? Maybe Quarion is also able to summon something able to fly and drive them away, though that looks like a waste of powerful magic on mere birds."

"I would have to agree, Odno. They are not particularly hardy creatures, my one arrow easily felled a raven. Certainly not worth spending any magical reserves we have. Can we circle the structure and get a better angle?" Quarion will move along the chasm slowly, hoping to do just that.

"Good idea. I'd say, Eanos, Aletheia and me stay here with our weapons ready, and you start circling the structure and the chasm so you can negate their cover."

Eanos, human monk

Eanos nods. "Seems as sound a plan as any," he says, pulling out and loading his sling. "Given that Quarion's bolt shows these creatures aren't all that hearty, I could probably make it across and take them down, but I'm mildly concerned that whatever force may be driving them has something all the more nasty lurking on that side; I'd hate to have the distraction of the birds if that should happen and all of you are stuck on this side."

Mordik takes out his Heavy Crossbow and loads it. Let's see how these beasties deal with a heavy bolt!

(ooc: I'll put intended actions in my init roll post from now on. my bad, was busy that day. heh)

ooc: you can move around at try to take out the birds from different angles. Effectively this will reduce thier cover severely. The average distance is about 70 feet from edge of the chasm. You can postition yourself and take your first shot.

Odno gets his crossbow and prepares himself to shoot

ooc: Ready an action to shoot the first bird without cover. Attack roll 14, damage 8. Light crossbow's range is 80 feet
