Break of Dawn [Manzanita judging] COMPLETED

"Gah! What was that? You cowards! Why did you just give in to that thing? It wouldn't have used such means if I weren't right! Do you realise that the ritual calling was an evil act that increased the world's evil and law. Why didn't you try to kill that thing? I had to stop because I had very bad luck with its evil compulsion spell. It only used it because I was getting close, you know."

*Aletheia is extremely incensed and disappointed with each and every one of the other party members, but especially Quarion, for being the actual caller of the Imp but being so bumblingly incompetent that he wouldn't repeat her demands when she asked him.*

It was 50 gold woman! What great evil plan can rest on a mere 50 gold? Is the great evil pit lord in dire needs of an Endure elements potion? Mordik scoffs, I'da preferred not to pay some toll, but I'll lose no sleep o'er it.

Eanos frowns, crossing his arms as he glares at the cleric.

"I'm sorry if we've upset you, lady, but we agreed to fulfill a mission, and if I haven't the discipline to honor my word, I am nothing," Eanos says evenly. "I saw no benefit in this small battle when there are far greater ones to fight. We balance out whatever evil we did hear with good later--or good we've already done."

The monk reaches into his sack and pulls out a sunrod. "For now, we have a way forward. I suggest we take it."

ooc: Well, with that XP reward Odno ascends from the low ranks of 1st levelers to a modest 2nd level (hello, +16 spot check). I'm sending him for approval, though I'm keeping of course the 1st level sheet until we can make the change effective

"Now that we faced a fiend says Odno "I feel it's a good moment to discuss what kind of attacks can damage such a creature - I've heard tales such as they coming from the very pits of hell, are naturally resistant to flames. If so I'll abstain from manifesting fire at them, but being able to create other kinds of energies, I wonder what of these must I use, should the need arise"

"For the greater good, you say? That's rich! Did you ever stop to think that the entrance wouldn't have a devil toll booth built into it unless this place was actually a site of great evil. It's the way of things--there is probably something dark and powerful that we shall unseal here. Of course, there's the off-chance that we are very lucky and the devilish ones sealed something powerful and good in here, I suppose"

"You want to hurt devils? Use lightning or sonic attacks as a caster. Silver weapons for everyone else. As far as I remember, that should be okay."

"I said we can balance this evil with a good," Eanos said. "I never declared this mission to be that good. I seem to recall everyone here questioning the motives of our employer and the nature of this artefact. But we decided to seek it anyway."

Here Eanos strikes the sunrod to light it, attaching it firmly in his belt to free both hands as he swings down onto the rung ladder.

"I, for one, have yet to find Lord Graven in breach of contract, so I don't intend to be guilty of it myself."

"Bah, that seems to me like a good way to get carried into a pit of bad karma from which you can never return." Aletheia sighs, "Oh well, I'm sorry for getting upset at you, but you guys were collaborating with a being of pure evil and law. Devils are evil incarnate and I cannot stand to associate with them."

Ooc

(OOC: Not to tangent, but I finished digging back through on the subject of money. In the RDI, Dunbar did say we'd get half the gold before we left the castle, but while we collected supplies, we never got the 1000 gold. Mind you, none of us thought to ask, either :o

The question, then, is whether we assume we got that gold in the course of being equipped at the castle or if we missed the opportunity and assume we'll be getting the full 2000 gold on our hopeful return? I'm kind of the opinion our professional adventurer characters would have a better mind to remembering their paychecks than we, personally, seem to have been, but I'm perfectly willing to RP it as the creepy castle throwing us off our game or something, too.)

Mordik seems to have nothing to add. He sheathes the silvered sword and follows Eanos down the ladder. At the bottom, he unsheathes the sword again and takes a good look around.

ooc: hmm, interresting, i indeed forgot to hand out the 500gp front. your employer did indeed intend to give you this money so concider that it was given to you before you left. sharp observation! my bad..
What will be the order in which you descend?
