[Buffy] Spoilers - Tonight's episode

I am not sure it's a case of "two personalities vying for supremacy". Retaining the hunger and need for blood isn't the same as having another personality.

In the case of Angel, in fact, having it be two personalities vying for control is not consistent with it being a curse. Angel is cursed not only with having a soul, but with the fact that if he ever actually feels true happiness, the curse ends - releasing a beast. If occasionally that beast had a chance at control, how long would he have kept such a curse? Like the beast isn't gonna go out and be happy right quick? Consider early on when we'd posit the beast would have a greter relative strength...

The issue is that in the Buffyverse, having a soul is at least partially equivalent to having a conscience. When you get a conscience back after a couple centuries of being a cruel and sadistic bloodsucking monster, your sanity is gong to be strained.

Before becoming a vampire, William the Bloody Awful Poet was a sensitive person. That sensitive person, faced with what he's done for so many years, snapped like a twig. It may take some time to put himself back together.

My theory on the Slayer-in-Training deaths is that they all die, leaving only Dawn to be Chosen. Seems to fit with the other pieces of the puzzle.

I'm getting a pretty good kick out of the season. In addition to being less depressing, serious evil seems to be afoot. The sharp contrast between our heroes and the villians is back!

PS
My theory is that a watcher wants a 'special' slayer to be activated removing all the ones in the middle, he will then try and kill Faith, who we know is going to be on the show later this year!

Far out there...how about the Zander and Buffy relationship? In the car together, being confused as dating, the comment about 'has anyone here not slept with each other'. Are we seeing a fore shadowing? Naaaaa, they are like family.

I think Willow will be weclomed back no questions asked. She is both Buffy's and Zander's best friend.

Spike, well he has to come to grips with himself and find value in his life. Still say he will be Dawn's watcher/trainer.

No way. Not only did she try to destroy the world, she also tried to kill Dawn (by turning her back into the Key and draining the energy). Buffy has shown that she's not all that rational when it comes to Dawn - at the end of season 5, she basically said "If Dawn has to die so the world won't be destroyed, to Hell with the world."

Nice how they answered all my leftover Spike questions and it's only the 2nd episode.

Soul Back: Check
Still a Vampire: Check
Still got the chip: Check

As to Tara's return, I hear the Master, Adam, Glory and the Mayor are "Returning" too. ;)

As to Buffy's dream, this may be part of the "First Slayer" conection from the aftermath of the battle with Adam. I think that was when Buffy "became" something more than human, not when she was ressurected.

Well, they were in the season premiere... I doubt they'll be around for more than that.

Or it's just another prophetic dream, like the ones she's been having for a long time now.

My favorite moments from the second episode:

Nancy saying, "Has anyone here NOT slept together?" - and then Spike and Xander looking at each other, then quickly turning away.

"These kids only understand three things - the boot, the bat and the bastanado." - From Principal Wood.

Buffy knowing what the heck a bastanado was. :)

"Spike, have you completely lost your mind?"
"Well, yes -- where have YOU been all night?"

The last scene dialog with Spike - a transcript of that last five minutes can be found in the review of the episode at www.scoopme.com. That was quite a powerful scene, and my hat is off to James Marsters for portraying one of the most complex characters on TV currently. The man deserves a ********* emmy for his skill!

As the resident Buffy-Fanatic let me shed some light:

1) It *IS* two souls vying for Space. Season 2, episode 8 "The Dark Age", we find out from Angel that he the demon inside of him has been waiting for a good fight when Eyghon takes over.

2) Im hoping it will be revealed this season about Xanders betrayl to Buffy in Season 2, Episode 23 "Becoming Part 2"

3) I have also been told we get to see what happens with Willows' ammulet D'Hoffryn gave her in Season 4's "Something Blue"

I don't recall when, but I remember Joss saying (at the San Diego Comicon, I think), that Amber would be back, even though Tara wouldn't. He refused to clarify. :)

Well, first I'll chime in on a Buffy thread, lol. Dunno if this has been cleared up somehow since the episode (I haven't kept up very well), but wasn't there one where Tara's dad showed up and said she was a demon or something? Maybe *that's* what's back?

Imagine...Willow having to fight her one time SO. Neato.

In that same episode, it was proved to be a lie. Basically, it was how the men in her family kept control of the owmen by telling them they were evil.

Get outta my head! :D

You sooo nailed the 3 things I thought were the best in this episode. Maybe it's because I'm a woman, but I was crying after that last scene. James Marsters is just great. (not to mention extremely sexy, IMHO)

I've finally read all thru this thread, but and still not sure where this is going for Spike, Buffy, dawn, etc.

I like the thought that maybe Spike ends up a watcher for Dawn. But then there was the suggestion that Willow might become a watcher.

Whew, my head is spinnig at all the implications of this season.

Angelsboi - What did Xander do to betray Buffy? I am a little sketchy when it comes to the first 2-3 seasons.

[OT] I was just dropping in for a moment on my lunch, to check out the Buffy thread, when I saw your sig, Valanthe. I was so happy that I had to log in and post!

Of course, it just reminds me that I was unable to score tickets to go see them when they're here in 18 days!!! Arrgh!

[OT] Hi Fiery, hehe, I am glad some else caught the Yoshimi reference. It's the first album I have gotten from them and I am enjoying it immensely. I heard they are touring with Beck (for his new one, Sea Change) *sigh* I too will not be able to go :(

Anyway, back on track, now is Tara or Amber Benson that shows up later this season?

[edit: typos. me bad]
