The section on creating a background states that you can spend 175 GP instead of the standard 150. Also, available cash if a character chooses the equipment package from either the background or the class doesn't seem to add up correctly with the cost of the equipment.

This one has bothered me all along, I've tried to make it add up and it just doesn't.

It really bothers me becuase I love the equipment lists from the background lists so much that if I were running a NEXT game I'd require everyone use the equipment lists only, customizing only from the leftover gold.

What are all the actual errors you've spotted? I'm not talking about design decisions you disagree with, but actual things where they messed up. Some things have been broken for a long time, so it looks like they need some help finding the errors. Let's make a list.

Classes
  • The Druid is proficient with the sickle. This weapon is not listed in the equipment doc.
  • Some Paladin domain spells are already on the Paladin spell list.
Spells
  • Dispel Evil, Reverse Gravity: These spells are in the spell lists on the first page, but the actual spell descriptions are missing.
  • Earthquake, Firestorm, Flaming Sphere, Hold Person: The spell level in the description doesn't match the spell level given in the spell list.
  • Remove Curse, Sound Burst: These spells are not listed in any of the spell lists.
  • Goodberry: The flavor text says it makes 5 berries, but the effect says it makes multiples of 10 berries.
Feats
  • Precise Shot: This seems to reference a rule (ranged attacks in melee) that doesn't exist anymore.
Monsters
  • The Wraith's life drain attack says it turns a victim into a specter. There is no explanation or monster entry to describe what a specter is.
Minor/Not sure if intentional/just haven't gotten there yet:
  • The Customization Option for the cyclops uses two different plurals in different paragraphs ("cyclopes" is the correct one).
  • Customization Options for the chromatic dragons have gone missing.
  • The Water Elemental can squeeze through tiny gaps, but the Air Elemental can't.
  • The Disciplined action (hobgoblins, humans) refers to itself as a trait. Also, mechanically, it cancels itself out in all imaginable situations.
  • The Rakshasa uses an illusion (with a pretty easy DC) instead of a polymorph.
  • It's not explained if spell-like abilities, such as the Dryad's dominate person, technically count as spells (the Rod of Absorption would really like to know).
  • Lots of monsters have suggestion, but it doesn't appear as a spell (though mass suggestion does).
  • The grease spell was in earlier packets, but has been missing for a while.
  • Holy symbols don't do anything.
  • Dominate monster has been removed from the Wizard spell list.
  • Halflings can use longbows with no penalty.
  • Spiked shields cost less than normal shields. (Also they give the same protection as normal shields, and do the same damage as other light weapons. Why would anyone ever not use a spiked shield?)

In the read first document they explain missing things in the packet. If more people read this document then I think wed have less threads like this.

In the play test out are looking at portions of the game not the whole game... that's a quote. Not everything is there and not very thing is cleaned up because that isn't the point of the play test. Simple answer to why aren't these things in here or why they are inconsistent.
