D&D 5E Build an anti-stereotypical team of 4.

I have a warlock that is kinda a rogue.
Take the criminal background for a few choice skills. Pact of the Tome for some more subtle cantrips, and the invocations that let you cast minor illusion and disguise self at-will, and you're super sneaky.

Wizard is probably easiest to do with an Arcana domain cleric or similar domain that grants blasting. Eschew the healing spells. Maybe throw in some high elf for an extra wizard cantrip.

A bard is probably the best replacement for a cleric. Take the restoration spells and perform some healing.

"Warrior": Bladesinger Wizard
"Rogue": Knowledge Cleric with Urchin/Criminal background
"Cleric": Mastermind Rogue w/Healer feat
"Wizard": Eldritch Knight with Skilled or Magic Initiate feat

"Fifth Man": UA Artificer, UA Hexblade Warlock or Chain Pact (Sprite) Warlock with Hermit background and Ritual Caster feat.

Note the 4 'core' classes all benefit from decent to high Int for skill buffs.

Doesn't using the core classes defeat the point of not using the core classes?

They put 'core' in quotes - they mean the alternates to the 4 classes that they listed, not the actual core classes. Basically noting that their variants all benefit from their Int score to one degree or another.

I guess I did use the core classes as the base but switched around their assumed roles. To me, that's a non-standard party.

A group with a Paladin, Druid, Bard and Warlock is pretty much team "Win D&D".

A group with a Barbarian, Ranger, Ancients Paladin and Druid MIGHT be nigh-unstoppable.

Regular Barbarian as the fighter
Barbarian that does NOT dump Int as the mage
Barbarian that does NOT dump Char as the face
Barbarian that does NOT dump Wis as the tracker
Dex Barbarian as the sneaky one

No healer necessary :)
