Bye Monte!

Voc,

Probably.

But yeah I don't see the big stink about no more Ptolus. I mean this thing is twice the size of any other RPG book I can recall. What more can he do?!

I think Ptolus is as standalone as you can make a product, though AU/AE & IH are probably dead. Guess I'll have to wait for Grim Tales 2: Dire Edition!

Yeah, plus there's lots of minis coming out. :D

As to AE and IH? Don't think they are down for the count. Adam Windsor has a sequel to Dark Harbor in the works for Iron Heroes. Blue Devil Games is gearing up for not one, not two, but three short pdf lines to support Arcana Evolved. Fiery Dragon has another adventure in the works (I should know, I just sent feedback to the author).

I have trouble wrapping my brain around the concept that No New Material = Dead. ;)

As for AE being dead, I can assure you that unless the author starts turning out utter crap (and I should hope not, because it's me) and unless the publisher decides to call it quits, FDP will publish adventures for Arcana Evolved as long as I can write.

Hey, you can still play with a corpse, it doesn't make it any less dead! :)

Magnum Opus

Having already gotten a copy of Ptolos...I have to say, Monte and Sue really outdid everyone this time. It is by far the prettiest and most well organized book I have ever seen for an rpg. Looks like a textbook, has all the extra "finishing touches" that everything else lacks, and makes even the limited edition Game of Thrones book (which was a masterpiece of fine art, btw) look like it was put together by kindergarten children.

My hat is off to Mr. and Mrs. Cook for this one.

It's kind of funny to see, in one thread, people wringing thier hands about 4e ("I'm not buying any more books! Jerks!"), and in this one, people wringing their hands about Malhavoc ("No more books to buy! Jerks!").

I guess that just goes to show you how much actually writing good books can improve peoples' perceptions of your company's product line. :p

[Monte Cook]
The Rumors Of My Demise Have Been Greatly Exaggerated
[/Monte Cook]

Sure he's taking a break, but that doesn't mean he's dead or left the industry, just taking a break. He's been writing RPG products for 18 years. I am glad that he's doing what he wants. I expect great things in the future for Malhavoc.

You've got to keep in mind the audience here though. Third Party is king on ENWorld. If WotC made Ptolus for $70, people would say they were gouging. :)

Nothing to detract from Monte Cook though, his career among the RPG World will be remembered by many as a great time.
