Camels: What are they good for? Nuthin'!

All:

What statistical advantage does a camel present to the D&D character travelling through a desert?

According to the DMG and MM, a Heavy Warhorse has a much better chance to survive in the desert than a camel.

What's up? Am I missing something?

Here's what I've made up for house rules. How do they look?

TRANSPORATION
Camel (Zamboulan/Dromedary1 or Hyrkanian/Bactrian2) (Nya p.101/229). Cost 50gp; carry as Hvy warhorse. Packs and saddles as horse cost. Bonus: Wild lore+5 and Con20 for checks in their native desert types.

Other than the whole "stores water in a hump" and "has feet that can actually deal with sand" things, nah, I can't see a single advantage that a camel would have over a warhorse in a desert setting.

Aside from the fact that the warhorse in deep sand desert would move like an epileptic monkey with rocks in his diaper and die of thirst in a few days, whereas a camel would not.

Which I'm pretty sure arn't covered in the stat blocks for either creature. *shrug*
