Can Dextyr Keep All These Strikers Alive? (DM: JoeNotCharles, Ozymandias79 Judging)

Mikara takes a moment to gesture obcenely behind the back of the specter, who seems to be blinder than a bat.

How can something so transparent be so dense?

I'm guessing that either Joe is really busy with RL and unable to update
OR
Joe is dead.
Personally, I'm hoping for the first option (he hasn't been THAT tough on us yet..)

Joe's around, just busy, I guess. He mentioned he can't post from work anymore and most updates would happen on the weekends, but this past one he didn't post for either games he's running

[sblock=OOC]
Sorry about that. I was just wiped out this weekend.

The good news is my deadline got pushed back, so I think I'll be able to post more.

I've caught up on everyone's actions: sorry Mikara, I'm keeping the roll that has a record, so the wraith's still alive.

The stone is 20 feet high. You can stand in any square that's got about 50% stone in it, if you get shoved off you get a saving throw to fall prone at the edge.

Working on the enemies' turns now.

Mikara leaps to her feet and rips through the mad wraith with her arrows. It's whispers suddenly blare forward in a maddening scream of pain which is quickly muted. The specter whirls to fix its glowing red eyes on her; she steadfastly ignores it, sidesteps away and fires another arrow at her target. It misses, allowing the wraith to cling to life. It reaches out to embrace Tonk, bending its cowled head close by his ear. Tonk feels its words slithering into his ear and wrapping around his brain like snakes, tightening their coils. Suddenly there is a surge of pain and white noise in his ears, and he finds himself standing face to face with Tristan. He realizes that he is swinging his mace murderously towards his Punch Brother, and he pulls back just in time! (The others see Tonk suddenly recoil backwards away from the mad wraith as if in pain, then suddenly whirl and charge at Tristan, pulling up just before the attack. One of the smaller spirits reaches out at him as he passes, but misses.)

The wraiths descend on Tonk and Tristan in a dark cloud, passing right through rope, trees, and each other. A large one narrowly misses Tristan, while one of the small ones lashes at him, leaving a cold numbness. Meanwhile attack after attack hits Tonk. The first few only numb him but as wraith after wraith passes through him, finally large slashing wounds split open on his skin. The attack drives him to his knees, barely holding to consciousness.

The necromancer cries out, "Beware the deva! The blue haired one! It defies death to return to this world, over and over, and it will defy your death touch. Drive it mad instead! The rest - DESTROY!" It pushes its way through the trees, setting the ropes jangling, to stand over Tonk. [color=]"But first,"[/color] he hisses, "Behold the one who will claim your life!" He throws back his hood to reveal a face of yellowed, rotting skin, drawn back tightly across his skull except where inhuman red eyes burn in his sockets. Suddenly the face expands to fill Tonk's entire vision and flies towards him, screaming curses. Tonk leaps to his feet in a surge of adrenaline and flees, leaving bloody splotches on the branches the whip at him. He sinks to his knees again at the side of the fire, clutching at its feeble light, pitches forward on his face and passes out.

Mikara stands and hits the Mad Wraith for 3 damage, bringing it down to 1 hp. The attack breaks her Stealth, so the Specter can see her now. She spends an AP to use Nimble Strike, shifting to K9 and missing (sorry, I'm keeping the rolls that have records).

The Mad Wraith attacks Tonk with Touch of Chaos: Touch of Chaos vs Tonk (targets Will) (1d20+7=14, 2d6+3=10) Hit for 10 (even with the -2 to attack I forgot to include). Tonk moves up to his speed and makes a basic attack on his nearest ally: move to J15 and attack Tristan. Mace at Tristan (1d20+6=7, 1d8+4=5) Look at that miss! However, the move attracts an OA from Wisp Wraith 2: OA on Tonk (1d20+4=12) Miss.

Wisp Wraith 1 moves to I16 and attacks Tristan. Wisp Wraith 2 moves to K15 and attacks Tonk. Wisp Wraith 3 moves to J14 and attacks Tonk. Wisp Wraith 4 moves to K14 and attacks Tonk. Shadow Caress (1 vs Tristan, 3 vs Tonk, targets Reflex) (1d20+4=21, 1d20+4=16, 1d20+4=22, 1d20+4=17) All hit: 4 necrotic damage to Tristan, 12 necrotic damage to Tonk, who is bloodied. Both Tonk and Tristan are slowed until the end of the Wisp Wraiths' next turn.

The Wraith charges to H15 and attacks Tristan with combat advantage: Shadow Touch vs Tristan (w/+2 to hit and +1d6 damage for combat advantage, +1 to hit for charging; targets Reflex) (1d20+8+2+1=14, 1d6+4+1d6=9) Miss. Amazing. I only needed a 4 to hit, and I missed.

The Necromancer rolls Religion to recognize Blade as a Deva (1d20+10=30) - critical success. Wow, he knows ALL ABOUT Blade, especially his necrotic resistance, and he passes the information on to his minions. He moves to K16 and uses Horrific Visage (close blast 3, targeting Tonk, Tristan, Dextyr and a whole bunch of undead who are immune): Horrific Visage vs Tonk, then Blade (targets Will) (1d20+7=26, 1d20+7=17, 1d6=3) Horrific Visage vs Dextyr (1d20+7=9) That roll's a bit screwed up because I mixed up Blade and Tristan and forgot about the -5 for intervening trees. So it's actually 26 vs Tonk, 12 vs Tristan, and 2 vs Dextyr. I wish I'd rolled those in a different order, because that would have hit Tonk's spectacular Will defense even with the -5. Regardless, 3 psychic damage to Tonk, who is now dying, and he is pushed 3 squares to G12. I wish the Necromancer knew the pit was there so I could push Tonk into it. Or that the fire was 1 square closer.

The Specter moves to J9 and attacks Mikara: Spectral Touch at Mikara (targets Reflex) (1d20+7=16, 1d6+2=6) Hit for 6 necrotic damage.

Your turn again! (Including Blade this time.)

Tonk at K16 (-1/24 hp, HQ on Mad Wraith until EONT, slowed until end of Wisp Wraith 2's next turn, dying)
Tristan at I15 (22/28 hp, OoE on Mad Wraith, slowed until end of Wisp Wraith 1's next turn)
Dextyr at I14 (28/28 hp)
Mikara at K9 (18/24 hp)

Mad Wraith at J16 (1/38 hp, -2 to attack rolls until end of Tonk's next turn, no aura until end of its next turn, used Touch of Chaos)
Wisp Wraith 1 at I16 (1/1 hp)
Wisp Wraith 2 at K15 (1/1 hp)
Wisp Wraith 3 at J14 (1/1 hp)
Wisp Wraith 4 at K14 (1/1 hp)
Wraith at H16 (31/31 hp)
Necromancer at K16 (54/54 hp, used Horrific Visage)
Specter at J9 (30/30 hp)

Blade at F15 (29/29 hp)

Mikara sees Tonk collapse by the fire, but there is little she can do. Turning to the Specter she spits a taunt into his face to extinguish his fiery stare.

"Oh, so you have eyes.
What a pretty shade of red
It will match your blood!"

Two arrows fly as Mikara steps carefully to the edge of the rock to strengthen their effect.

[sblock=Actions]
Move: Shift to L8
Minor:
Standard: Twin Strike
Target: Specter
Actions: 2X 1d20+7+1(Prime Shot) = 14, 25. One Hit
Damage: 1d10+1 + 1d8 (HQ) = 12, Halved, rounded down = 6
AP: Twin Strike
Target: Specter
Actions: 2X 1d20+7+1(Prime Shot) = 21, 25. 2 Hits.
Damage: 2d10+2 = 14 Halved, rounded down = 7.
(accidently typed 1d10+2 so rolled another 1d10)
Did I mention I hate insubstantials. Valemont has us up against them in LEB too.

Doing the math, I had to blow an action point and the guy's not even bloodied!
Total 13 damage

IC is down again! Using dice room.

"Oh my. I forgot.
Undead creatures do not bleed.
They die nonetheless."

[sblock=OOC]
Joe. I originally tried to justify Mikara's stealth check and posted alternate results dependent on your ruling. Then I checked PHBII. She can't attack and stay hidden. The very act reveals her, and she can't hide during combat without cover, so no stealth check can keep her from being discovered. Dang!

Below was my turn if I passed the stealth check. Please disregard. I just kept this here to explain my Dice Room posts:

Taking advantage of her clueless neighbor, she attempts to keep the wraiths from pursuing Tonk and attacking her allies.

[sblock=Actions]
Move: Shift to L8, Stealth = 1d20+11 (I keep forgetting the boots) = 31
Way to blow a Nat20 on a stealth check.
Specter is still clueless.
Minor:
Standard: Twin Strike
Target1: Wraith J14
Attack: 1d20+5 = 24
Damage: Dead Wraith
Target2: Wraith at K14
Attack: 1d20 + 2 = 15
Damage: Dead Wraith

AP: Twin Strike
Target 1: Mad Wraith
Attack: 1d20+2 = 15 $#%@!
Damage: = None! :p
Target 2: Wraith at I16
Attack: 1d20+2 = 18
Damage: Dead Wraith

Still using dice room.

[sblock=Tactics?] Guys. I'm going to be busy up here on the rock with this Specter. Not sure if I'll be able to get away to help you.

Dextyr: Use an area attack to take out Mad Wraith and the minions if you can. If you have a minor left over, stabilize Tonk.

That'll free up Blade and Tristan to bring down the Whisp Wraith.
