Can Dextyr Keep All These Strikers Alive? (DM: JoeNotCharles, Ozymandias79 Judging)

[sblock=you said it..]
.... I'm frustrated.....

I think that is an understatement. I cannot belive our group has made it this far without a proper rest, and the odds just keep getting worse.

If I had my Daily left it would be a little better, as that power would heal anyone who hit it for 4 hit points each time the hit it - but alas, it's long gone.

At least Tonk can hit on a 13. Dextyr needs a 16 with his ranged at-will power, and can only deal out 5-10 points of daamge with it. The best chace I have with a ranged attack is with Eldritch Blast, where I only need a 14 to hit, for a whopping 5-14 points of damage. My other encounter I would need a 20 to hit with it. My best bet to hit it would be to run up to it and hack at it with my longsword, where I could hit it with a 13, but that would be very short lived.

So as you put it, Whoopie. Whoopie indeed, as I cannot see a very good outcome for this fight.

There is a chance, If I can hit it with vicious mockery often enough it will lower it's attack roll by 2, dropping it to only a +8, which might mean Blade and Tristan will live a few rounds longer. If they can flank it, there-by increasing their odds of hitting it by +2, perhaps they can sink a good deal of damge into it. We really haven't seen the 2 avengers team up on anything this big yet, so it will be interesting. That leaves Mikara to twin strike the living heck out of it from a distance, hopefully getting the blessings of Invisible Castle and hitting more often than not with both shots. And then comes Tonk. I'd say that your best bet is to stay on the outside and pitch in however you can. Even if it is only standard shuriken damage, it will all add up. That, and I'd suggest that when it looks really bad, then take off running for town. I'm sure Tonk can convince zink-zink man to raise us all from the dead :-)

There is another peal of thunder, and two more bolts of lightning stab down from the sky. Tonk leaps out of the way and the lightning bolt grounds itself in the earth, but Blade is caught by surprise and the second bolt zigs through the sky straight towards him! At the last minute, however, it twists aside and strikes the top of one of the twisted trees nearby, knocking a branch loose to plummet to the ground.

[sblock=Nature 14]
The lightning seems to be moving more erratically now, and is being attracted to tall trees as it normally would. If you are next to a square containing something taller than you and you are struck by lightning, you now get a save to transfer it to the tallest adjacent target.
[/sblock]

The stone elemental ignores the lightning and slams its massive rocky fist down on Tristan once, and then twice. Both fists slam into Tristan and send him staggering back under the might blow. He collapses to the ground. The elemental lumbers forwards, scoops up his limp body, and hurls it at Mikara, whose head is just visible peeking through the trees. Tristan is struck dead on impact, and Mikara is knocked off her feet under the weight of his body. A greasy orange smoke puffs up from the ground to envelop the two of them, and when it clears, Tristan's body is gone, leaving only Mikara lying bleeding on the ground.

[sblock=Tristan]
You awake in a shadowy room. Your body feels numb, and you are weak from exhaustion. You are in a hard, uncomfortable bed, looking up at a vaulted stone ceiling overhead. A kindly looking old man with a stubble of grey and white beard leans over you. The holy symbol of Lauto hangs from his neck.

"There. Ssh. Don't try to move - you're all right now,"[/colour] he says, patting your shoulder. You can barely feel it. "Don't you worry, the god you've served so well wouldn't abandon you! Of course, there wasn't much we could do while you were alive - not our sphere of influence at all - but once you died we were able to pull you out of there right away. You'll be safe here - you're beneath the Temple, not even the strongest of bounty hunters can get at you in HERE."

"It will take a bit of time for your strength to return, but don't worry, you'll be on your feet soon. In the meantime, you can follow how your friends are doing." He points to your right, and you turn your head (with some difficulty) to see a large orb, 5-feet wide, in which you can see the tiny figures of your friends still fighting the much large figure of the elemental.

The priest takes a few steps to leave, then suddenly turns back to you. "Oh," he says, "I almost forgot. We're not allowed to make exceptions, so we'll still have to charge you. But we'll give you some time to get your affairs together and scrape the money together. A week should suffice." He tucks a piece of paper under the sheet by your neck and waves cheerily.

[sblock=Bill]
Tristan Moonblade, of Daunton, having arrived in the arms of Lauto in the most dire state of death, and been returned from this state by the intercession of His priests, now owes the Temple of Lauto the sum of 500 gold.

OOC: running out of time for tonight, so I will award you your XP tomorrow. Feel free to RP with the priest, or skip forward in time until after you've recovered and return to the tavern, join other adventures, etc. Don't settle up your bill or do anything about the lawyers yet, though - that will need to wait until everyone else has arrived here. I'll wait until then to award treasure.

Congrats on surviving so long! It took a Level 6 solo to bring you down!

[sblock=Tonk]
Your shuriken knocked a large chunk of rock loose from the elemental's hide, and it's now lying on the ground in square L14. It's almost perfectly round and looks like it would make a fine mace head, and you can see it crackling with elemental energy.

[sblock=Status]
Mikara shifts to I12, misses with Evasive Strike and then Elven Accuracy (using an AP), shifts to H12, and then moves to E11 and hides with Stealth 13.

Tristan puts his Oath of Enmity on the Stone Elemental, shifts to J13 and hits it twice for 40 (using an AP), and puts Oath of the Final Duel on it.

Tonk shifts to O16 and hits it with a shuriken for 24, then misses with his AP and shifts to P17. He can't roll Stealth because you can only roll Stealth after a move action, not an attack that contains movement.

The tree stumps are difficult terrain, the trees themselves are blocking terrain and block line of sight. Due to the mud, everyone's speed is reduced by 2 - you can run to move at regular speed, but must make a DC 15 Balance check - if you fail, you can't move, if you fail by 5 or more, you fall prone.

Lightning strikes Blade and Tonk: Lightning at (1=Blade,2=Dextyr,3=Tristan,4=Tonk) (1d4=1, 1d20+8=24, 1d10+4=11, 1d4=4, 1d20+8=13, 1d10+4=14) Hits Blade, misses Tonk. Blade gets a saving throw: "save" to get lightning to strike adjacent trees (1d20=18) He makes it, and the lightning strikes the nearby trees instead.

The elemental uses One-Two Punch to punch Tristan twice: One-Two Punch on Tristan (1d20+7=24, 2d8+5=18, 1d20+7=24, 2d8+5=11) Hits twice for 29 damage total, and since he hit with both Tristan is pushed 2 squares (to H12) and knocked prone. Tristan's dying! Also, the elemental uses Murderous Frenzy: gain an AP the first time it reduces an opponent to 0 hp. Now it has 3. It moves to I12 and uses an AP to attack Tristan with Bear Hug: Bear Hug vs Tristan (w/+2 for combat advantage) (1d20+8+2=29, 3d8+4=12) Hit for 12, and Tristan is grabbed. Finally, as a minor action, it uses Hurl to throw Tristan at Mikara (Passive Perception 14 beats her stealth check): Hurl Tristan at Mikara (attack vs Reflex, damage to Mikara, damage to Tristan) (1d20+8=21, 1d6+5=8, 1d6+5=11) Hits Reflex 19 (forgot -2 for cover) for 8, and does 11 more damage to Tristan. Tristan is killed instantly, and Mikara is knocked prone and bloodied.

Don't forget the elemental's Reach 2 when checking for opportunity attacks.

Your turns!

Mikara at J13 (11/24 hp)
Tristan at F14 (-24/28 hp, Oath of Enmity on Stone Elemental, if it is more than 3 squares away at start of turn can teleport to within 3 squares with minor action (ends if more than 3 squares away at end of turn), prone, dying)
Tonk at N15 (3/24 hp)
Blade at E9 (29/29 hp)
Dextyr at O6 (14/28 hp)

Stone Elemental at K13 (211/275[color], used 1 AP, used Bear Hug)

Tristan's disappearance and likely demise sends Blade off the deep end, he unleashes a primal roar, "MAROS, I WILL BE BY YOUR SIDE IN MOMENTS!" the deva warrior shouts as he comes around the corner and moves with all speed towards the elemental. The creature punches Blade with a vicious blow that snaps his head back and sends him sprawling to the ground. The deva stands, wipes the blood from his mouth and charges forward with his greataxe. The weapon glances off the enemy with little effect, the rocky hide too strong. Blade refocuses and swings again, this time his weapon carried the divine energies of Maros on it and it causes a minor wound to the creature, the energies lingering for a few more seconds.

Blade was breathing heavy, his time was nigh, he had served Maros and sent many souls in his honour. Preparing for the counterattack, the deva surprisingly had a smile on his face. Whispering "Perhaps I'll see you there Punch Brothers".

Well.... Blade's f'd so I suggest someone use his Divine Guidance this turn because he's dead next turn. Probably either Tonk or Mikara...

Mikara steps out from behind the tree, not caring anymore what happens to her. True to form, she stands over Tristan's dead body and blows a raspberry at the hulking creature.

"Thtthpthtphtphptpthpthth!
Ya missed me!"

She draws her bow and fires two arrows, one rapidly after the other. The first sinks into a crack between the armored plates of rock in the colossus' armpit, but the other is not so lucky. The arrowhead of that one shatters on the creature's stony skin.

Mikara revels in her small success and dives out of sight, leaving Maros to protect his hero, as she cannot.

Tonk snarls.

And stops smiling.

He hurls a shuriken at the elemental. (Standard Action: Disheartening Strike - Miss!)

The half-orc moves into the cover of the tree and hides. (Move Action: to M16, Stealth Check = 21)

Is the rain and lighting sufficient concealment to allow Tonk to sneak in the open? If so, he sneaks out and grabs the mace head and returns to cover.

[sblock=Blade]
Technically you can't move to H12 - you only have a move of 4 due to the mud. But it still works out - you move to F12 with your move action and then charge (getting pushed back to F12) but since you're not out of move, I'll say that this doesn't break the charge. So it just takes you 4 move instead of 3 to get to him with the charge.
[/sblock]

[sblock=Mikara]
You can't move to A6, you only have move 5 because of the mud (unless you run, which gives a chance to slip and fall). Besides which, you get a -5 to Stealth if you move that far. I'll say you move to E9 - it's only 2 squares away so you don't get the penalty. That ok?

Wait - you're prone. You get a -2 penalty to hit, and can only crawl 2 squares anyway. Doesn't change anything, since the 24 still hits with the -2, but I'll say you didn't use Divine Guidance when you had a -2 to hit anyway. (Who knows, Blade may live another turn after all.)
[/sblock]

[sblock=Tonk]
You can't move to M16, these trees are blocking terrain. How about N15? I'll let you hide there. After that, moving out to get the mace won't break your stealth like an attack would. (In fact, I'll let you spend a move and a minor to move to L14, grab the mace, and move back to N15. (And then you can even attack afterwards with combat advantage for being hidden...)

Also, since I said Mikara didn't use Divine Guidance, you could use it on that Disheartening Strike if you want.

Now that I've given you these options, you can change around your moves if you want.
[/sblock]

Waiting on Dextyr, if anybody want to make changes to the above actions in the meantime let me know.

There will be an XP bonus for bloodying this, even if you don't kill it.

[sblock=Stealth]
You can make a Stealth check at the end of any move action, if you have superior cover or total concealment, or are outside line-of-sight. (I'm fudging line-of-sight a bit this battle, since it has poor senses and the rain is heavy.)

After you've become hidden, to STAY hidden you just need regular cover or concealment. So ducking behind a wall, becoming hidden, and then moving behind some bushes or a light screen is possible. If you move more than 2 squares, you need to make a new Stealth check with a -5 penalty.

Attacking automatically breaks Stealth, as does anything that should obviously draw attention to you like making a loud noise, but you count as having Stealth until you finish rolling the attack.

So it's perfectly possible to gain Stealth with your move action first, then attack with combat advantage. What you usually can't do (unless you use an AP for a second move action) is get Stealth, attack, then get Stealth again on the same turn.
[/sblock]

[sblock=Stealth loophole]
The only way I can see a loophole is with Deft Strike. Deft Strike allows you to move 2 squares before your attack. So from where Tonk is he uses Deft Strike (Standard Action) moving from N15 to N14 and attacking. He then moves back to N15 or N16 (Move Action) and rolls another stealth check. As long as he makes his stealth roll, he can pop out and attack with Combat Advantage every turn. At least this is how I ruled it in my RL game that I ran, and it seems to fit the rouge.
[/sblock]

Oh, and I'll post Dextyrs action when I go home for lunch - IC is blocked here at work...

[sblock=OOC]
Yes, that works with Deft Strike - if you can get stealth at the end of the previous turn, you can attack and then get back to stealth. It's just stealth-attack-stealth that doesn't work.

Except with From the Shadows, unless I'm misinterpreting it...
