Can I use Dimension Door to get out of a grapple

I was wondering, if my sorcerer was being grappled could I use Dimension Door to escape (assuming I made my concentration check to cast the spell)? From reading the spell it sounds like it acts as a teleport, but the name suggests a door pops up and you walk through it.

Can you? Heck, sometimes I think that's what it's for. Wizards don't often have much need to blip around the battlefield, but a lot of them prepare it as emergency escape from pro wrestlers ...

I can imagine monsters who would have the ability to maintain a grapple through a teleportation or other dimensional travelling effect, but that would be exotic even by the standards of D&D.

I would think an epic opponent could pull it off, if the form of teleportation matched a stowaway spell [Epic] feat they have. Definitely exotic, though...

A dimensional anchor spell like ability could also be created, if you were inventing monsters.

In a recent game my 12th level Monk was Entangled by a demon. I tried to DD out of the entangle, but the GM ruled the Entangle would go with me. This offended me, but I could find no support in the rules for either interpretation.

Can one DDoor out of shackles? I would think it would be a similar issue...

Or Mallus's CITY campaign, in my sig. In that game, all teleportation-type magic is part of what's called gate magic, and does actually create a gate someone else can leap through if timing it just right. If you're grappled by someone and DD, the grappler comes along with you.

Which, of course, is a house rule.

IMG Dimension Door opens a portal right behind you. An inky mass of tentacles and mouths reaches from the other side and draws you in. A few heartbeats later, you are expelled at your desired location without memory of the transit. Close examination of one's self after the transit will reveal red marks applied all over those who were affected by the spell, like a great pressure had been pressing on them for some time.

Those familiar with the incantation pertaining to The Dweller at the Threshhold will recognize this entity. Those familiar with the Far Realm / Cthulhu Mythos will avoid this spell.
