Can you Really kill someone?

That's why I said "Turn-To-Stone" and then disintegrate. Petrified is not dead, and thus cannot be resurrected.

Even if someone was turned to stone first, I think disintergrating them would probably constitute killing them. Maybe I am wrong though?

disentegrating a stoned individual constitutes killing them. It releases the soul and true ressurection can bring them back to life.

So we've got a sphere of annihalation, barghest, and hide & hope schemes.

I figured out another, use a suggestion saying, "you really want to worship the lady of pain". She'll take care of the rest I'm sure. I scanned through my friends dieties and demigods and saw the life and death ability, basically it kill someone and only a diety of a greater rank can ressurect them. and well, the lady of pain is as high up there as you can get by all accounts.

Caliber, hadn't thought about that, I could justify the unresibility by 200+ years passing there where the body is.

Kill target. Cast Soul Bind (PHB). Put gem in a Glove of Storing (DMG).

I'd like to add on to this.

Kill target. Cast Soul Bind. Put gem in Bag of Holding. Put Bag of Holding in Portable Hole. Gem is lost forever.

Sure, you could say that a deity could locate and retrieve the gem, no matter how "lost" it is, but that'd just be a copout. ;)

Remember... the most important rule of all is Rule 0.

Rule 0 only means something if you can back it up. Otherwise, rule 0 is simply another way of saying "It's my birthday! I'll do what I want!" ;)

Femerus, you missed the point of my question really. I know I can tweak the rules, create a house rule, rule 0 it, create plot devices etc, etc, etc.

I'm asking out of curiosity, not whining about my lack of skill at rules lawyering. And I figured it be faster, more diverse, and more entertaining to bring you in on my endeavor.

Cowl of warding (Mind blank always on) shoved over his head + imprisonment? He isn't dead but nothing is going to bring him back.

*edit* Have your Simulacrum cast the imprisonment at some unknown location and then kill him.

Cast Soul Bind, Cast Gate to summon Asmodeus.

Give gem to Asmodeus. Ask Asmodeus if you can scry on him to see what happens to the adventurers who try to get the gem back.

True Resurrection does not work if the target has died of old age. Since Wish and Miracle are the same level as True Resurrection, I doubt they would be able to do what it cannot. Therefore, age the target till death, then dump the body (husk?) on the temple steps...that should get someone's attention.

A couple other creatures can eat souls are well:

Devourers use them to power their spell-like abilities, but go through souls rather quickly...They are not that hard for high level characters to control, summon, or create. Make sure that it immediately uses the soul up, though, because before that time, a limited wish can free it.

Demiliches eat trapped souls over the course of 24 hours. trap the soul of the target, then deliver the gem to the nearest demilich as an offering of sorts. it can then magic jar the soul into one of its internal soul gems and eat it.

Lavawights' Blazefire ability does permanent HP damage that cannot be naturally or magically healed. It does not explicitly say that a target cannot be brought back, but if the creature is killed by a Lavawight's blazefire, his max HP would be -10, so that should mean that resurrection would fail.
