I sometimes use my phone at the table, and am okay with players sometimes using theirs as well. I have one player who last session was recieving a slew of texts from a band-mate that had an asston of samples in it, which for some insane reason he kept checking and playing bits of, which was really fricken annoying! If he does it again I'm going to tell him to put it away or bring the game to a pause until he's finished, so that everyone has plenty of time to give him the stink-eye.

But otherwise I'm tolerant of phones at the table provided you're quiet and I don't have to repeat myself.

Work, SO/family, and emergency calls are certainly fine. Quick texts, too. Life happens. Now, just putzing around with a phone does not make me a happy DM at all.

If someone whips out a phone and starts goofing around because their bored at the game, well, that's only going to make the game even more boring for them.

My group is pretty good about cellphones, thankfully.

The calculator on my phone is great for adding up XP...

I have the phone with me wherever I go, pretty much. But at the gaming table, I'll turn it face down in order to leave it alone. Elsewhere? The rest of my life? If I'm honest, the answer is I'm never without it and am frequently using it.

I voted "occasionally." But only because we're talking about gaming.

For me, the type of use is the determinative, and the amount is merely dependent on how much that type is needed.

i like HeroLab to manage my character, so I suppose 100% of the time. But it's all game-relevant.
