Changing weapon types

Suppose I would like to change a short sword type from piercing to slashing. In better terms, suppose I create a new weapon that is a small slashing weapon that make 1d6 dam crit on 19-20/x2. Would it incur any balance issue ? Assume that weapon focus (short sword) and weapon focus (that new weapon) would be different. Same for weapon finesse. And assume that vorpal weapons do not exists.

So you want to make a Cutlass from the FRCS?

EDIT: Actually, a cutlass is both piercing and slashing. Pretty cool, huh?

Thanks. I thought cutlass where considered scimitars. Making them medium weapon and being harder to hide beneath cloaks and mantle. Piercing/slashing huh ? Cool indeed !

They will be "elven short scimitars". Sort of...

Heh, watched it again last night. Is there anything besides the Cave Troll he shot and didn't kill in 1 shot? I dont think so

Maybe the Legolas' enhancement is limited by size?

Maybe everything Legolas shot had 1 HD and 4 HP, and Legolas' bow was a short bow +5.

Well, it could. In fact I created those weapon last week for an elven ranger-rogue character I'm playing. Last weekend, I bought a DVD player and I could watch at last the extended version of lord of the rings FOTR. And I realised how similar Legolas' "fighting knives" and my character's "slashing short swords were similar. BTW, my character is not an archer .
