Chaotic Evil Party, Help!

So any one have any advise on what kind of approach I should take to Dming for this sort of party?
Mhm, depends. Are you having fun DMing for this party?

I know, I wouldn't (these days). When I was young we used to have games like that and it was fun for a while... But if you're enjoying yourselves, go ahead :)

Just turn things on their head.

  • Try to get the PCs go on a quest to steal the macguffin that is used to maintain peace and order within a city.
  • Instead of dungeons, prompt them towards the looting and desecration of an ancient temple of Good.
  • Have an area protected by a good dragon so the PCs can hunt it down.
  • Create a competing group of bad-a**es who have been claiming credit for some of the party's exploits.
 

Yes, I probably got a bit carried away with the tone of my post.
Hah... and I came off as lecturing... sorry... I blame lack of coffee.

Oh, and going out like Butch and Sundance sounds terrific. We're heading --willingly, with eyes open-- down that path in my own 4e campaign by being on the wrong side of a Socialist goblin revolution based around demands for workers rights, universal heathcare and the literal eating of the rich.

(actually, there probably isn't a right side... just a losing side --ie the poor one-- and most of our PC's are aligned with it).
 

Going after weak and vulnerable prey is perfectly sensible behavior, as any predator can tell you.

Also, if you want them to do something other than mug villages, remember that "weak and vulnerable" does not usually translate to "but has tons of loot hidden". So those easy towns they're knocking over could rationally be getting them much less than the standard loot-per-encounter. So, yes, they might be the kings of bandits, but they'll also probably end up like most bandits: poor.

If they want money, they'll have to pick richer targets, which will be much less vulnerable, and thus much more interesting to fight.

I already mentioned to them that when they left the dungeon to go sack the town they left all the good treasure behind. They aren't gonna find ancient magic and piles of gold in the general shop after murdering the store keep.

Not sure if I like it or not. I like the game and I haven't played in a while. I like the idea of Paladins hunting them down. They've been so careful not to be seen doing their foul deeds, but then again, an entire town destroyed warrants priestly divination magic. I think I'll go that route, have their identities found through divination and bounties put up on their heads in a few days time.

Same thing should apply for XP. They should not be getting much of XP for killling weak opponents.
 

Here's a crazy idea. Local bigwig, like the king or something, puts the word around that he's looking for adventurers to find out who destroyed the town and bring the culprits to justice. Your PCs take the job.

It's fun to be the bad guys. Let them crush their enemies, see their allies driven before them, and hear the lamentations of the womenfolk left behind...

Chaotic Evil folks can and will work together (just look at the Drow for one example). As such, they can go on any standard adventure you throw at them... but for completely different (and at time nonsensical) reasons. Good heroes still quest, help folks, find loot and kill the bad guys, so let 'em...

My favourite means of motivating PC's is to create an NPC 'rival group' that always seems to follow the PC's around. Always offer the PC's several options for quests. Each quest that they turn down is picked up by the rival group who gets the loot and the prestige and comes home to brag about it. If the PCs then choose to attack said group, the NPCs will have the goodies necessary to protect themselves. It helps when you make them 1-2 levels higher than the PCs, and design them as actual PC's.

Careful with that. If they've gone to a lot of trouble to avoid being seen, it's best not to just negate that effort. Perhaps the priests get a riddling answer couched in metaphor; the PCs start hearing that an order of paladins is hunting for <riddle that the PCs recognize as identifying them>, and then there can be some adventures as they try to keep the paladins from putting the pieces together.
 

Have them, completely unaware, or maybe tricked by a demon, do something to thrawt a LE plan....may the LE have been planning a move for a while, and the nutters come and rampage all over it.

Perhaps they get a visit from a sole LE agent, demanding recompense, welll beyond what they can afford / damage they did

chances are they will shoot the messenger!

Even if they dont have the LE agents then contact some CG agents...they are utter zealots, like all CG, and they try to get them to do the dirty work of sorting out the party.....of course the LE will then spring in at an oppurtune moment and carnage should ensue

Do the party have a base of operations, or do they drift from town to town. Very rapidly, there actions or reputation will spread and the folk in the next town will be waiting

In a pathfinder campaign im currently running the party are evil of one sort or another.

Around them a war is going on between LN of a new religion, and CG of an old faith....

There can find enemies in all quarters.
that is the beauty of running to CE....everybody can be there enemy, no one is really there friend
