Character Theme Songs...

Someday, I plan to play a Monk whose theme is Everything Zen by Bush... it'll be a happy day...

But, then again, I have a list as long as my arm of characters that I WANT to play someday...

NO! Not LENNY! :( That's terrible - who's going to do the wisecrack at the begining of the show now?
I have no idea... it's all so sad. I really like Detective Green... but-- he's no Detective Curtis, either...

I don't know if they'll be able to replace him.. *sniffle*

But, I'll always have, what, 11 years of reruns to watch with Lenny in them... :)

My wizard merchant prince had Money Talks by ACDC and Sharp Dressed Man by ZZTop as his prime theme songs.

My diabolist WoD vampire had a theme song of Eat the Rich by Aerosmith.

Theme Music

I almost always play music during my games... Instrumentals and sound tracks work best, of course... some of our groups favorites include Last of the Mohicans, the Lord of the Rings trilogies, Jurassic Park, Dances with Wolves, the 13th Warrior, plus many others. Also, we really enjoy the Midnight Syndicate that's been mentioned previously, as well as Red Steel's Savage Baronies. During tavern settings, I like to play parts from video games such as Baldur's Gate and the Temple of Elemental Evil's wav. files, mixed with other stuff... the background noise really helps my players to fit into what's going on, especially when I throw in a few renaissance flute or lute numbers, acoustic folk songs, or even auld poetry readings to emulate performing minstrels or gleemen. It really sets the mood.

As for theme music for the players themselves, the closest we've really come is back in the very late 80's... one of my dear friends from school, Sean, played a bard by the name of Rubino Gemseeker, and Rubino would parody the music of the time (usually hard stuff like Metallica and Zeppelin) into songs that fit our party and the members. Some songs I remember are "We are the Hunt" (our company's name at the time), "the Berserker Song" to Led Zepp's "Immigrant Song", "Crits Happen," and of course the immortal, "Why, Why Did Our Thief Have to Die?" with apologies to Don McLean. I swear, we got more laughs hearing (and singing along) to these songs in the tavern scenes than in any dungeon or overland quest. One of the very best was "Thought I'd Warn You", a very imaginative take on the Eagle's "Hotel California". I don't remember the whole thing, but I sure wish I had copies of the lyrics... little lines like "I've been possessed and I thought I'd warn ya... Now my +2 Mace... is swinging at your face." It probably doesn't sound nearly as fun out of context, but trust me, back then we were shooting Pepsi out of our respective noses!

By the suggestion of Queen Dopplepoppolis, here's the Dragon Mocking Song. It is a fine example of what can happen at 1am when the Bard in question has consumed quite a bit of sugar and the group is fighting a black dragon. You have been warned.

The Dragon Mocking Song

There was a small little worm
And he soon began to squirm
When I stuck my sword in his head
And then the worm was dead

Refrain:

Oooooh, I like the little worm
He has a weak epiderm-…
is I skewer him with my weapon of choice
And then we all will sing and rejoice

There was a worm with black scales
I squashed him like a snail
He screamed and whined and cried
And then the wormy died

(refrain)

There was a worm who here came
His acid spray was quite lame
My friends and I turned and yelled
And then the worm was felled

(refrain)

There was a black dragonelle
He had an awful smell
If he acted like a real dragon
I probably wouldn’t be braggin

(refrain)

There was a poor little snake
Who thought he was a drake
He tried to spit his acid
But found he was too placid

(refrain)

There was a little black lizard
Who could be beaten by a wizard
With no spells, and an exotic untrained weapon, and 1 hitpoint, burdened
And a strength of 3
And now the song is done.

I had an elven paladin once, and when a city was about to be destroyed he used a magic item that had a 98% chance to call the attention of his deity to protect the city. I rolled 99....the city was destroyed.

So later using an artefact of the goddess of rebirth, he resurrected the entire city, denounced his old god and started to worship her. His theme song was chop suey by system of a down.

You are my new hero.

Is there a tune?
