D&D 5E Charisma 1 ...

Due to a Curse, character has a "1" in Charisma, until a Remove Curse can be obtained. What effects does this have in the game world, other than the obvious negative modifier to Skills, Ability Checks and CHA Saves?

Maybe the curse horribly scars the player until it is lifted. The player could develop a horrible speech impediment making it almost impossible to communicate and cast spells that require voice.

Whatever effect the DM says it has. I wouldn't necessarily affect any change as DM by default - the mechanics will sort that out if and when I call for a Charisma ability check. It's up to how the player has his or her character act in my view. The player may decide the character acts no differently and that'd be okay with me.

Well looking at the MM the only entries with a charisma of 1 are fungi and oozes and the gray ooze even has a charisma of 2, so this player is less charismatic then a grey ooze.

So there might not be a personality left, just instincts having to do with primary needs like eating and sleeping.

Charisma is more about force of personality than appearance - an otherwise plain or ugly person becomes someone with "unconventional beauty" or "striking features" if they have enough charisma. With a charisma of 1...they may lose their ability to properly express their emotions and desires, so that people think they aren't reacting or are reacting negatively regardless of their intent (penalties on persuasion), they may lose the ability to mask their emotions and intent (penalties on deception).

So they can't express them properly when they try, but can't hide them when they try either. You come across as loud, brash and insensitive with no subtlety.

Or they may become someone with no force of personality at all - quiet as a mouse, unable to express themselves in a way that people notice, and kind of fade into the background. That person in the background of the group that no one really notices.

Hiya!

He ist he most beautiful person in the world. He never runs out of money, no matter what he buys. He can sing in perfect pitch, the first time. He can play any instrument flawlessly...the first time. He always wins any game of chance. He smells like he just had a shower in a natural spring waterfall straight from the elemental plane. Everyone he meets or who sees instantly thinks he is the bestest, most awesomest person in the world. Everyone wants to sleep with him (...everyone...).

However, after being away from him for more than an hour, everyone absolutely loath's him and wants to seem him suffer a horrible, prolonged death. The fact that no matter what any assassin tries to do to him, it always backfires and he gets away scott free...or even ends up better off for it. This just makes everyone loath him more.

Eventually, when the curse is lifted, virtually everyone in the world hates him and wants to see him dead.

It is due to a curse after all, so maybe its not entirely up to the player to act fully CHA 1, it could be the curse causes others to see and treat him as CHA 1. Essentially, his opinions have no weight, his presence is not noted or desired, his actions are not appreciated or acknowledged.

Maybe a fun roleplaying aspect might be that other party members constantly forget the he is there, or maybe even who he is, accidently leaving him behind, etc. And perhaps things he says are dismissed out of hand regardless of their content by the party. Like the PC gives his idea of the plan, but the others are like "Shut up, Ted, that's dumb. Hey I just had an Idea [says Ted's idea without realizing its Teds Idea]." That sort of thing.
