There's a possibility that me and a few others from Detroit (including maybe shadowlight, Quickbeam and Stockdale) will come up as well.

OK. I'm officially coming! :D But even more importantly:
Mrs. Shadowlight is also coming!!! WEE HAW!!

Anyone planning on running d20 Modern or Star Wars?

Hey, I will be in Detroit for three or four nights during the last week of September, is anybody free to get together for a drink?

Example: we had a power armor PC with Protection rank 8. The problem was his Damage Save was 4. Every time he got hit by an attack of Damage 9 or higher he went down and out. As he was the brick of the group, he got ticked off pretty quick and gave up on the game.
If he had Protection at +8, then the save for a damage +9 attack would be DC 16. With a +4 Dmg save, that means he had a 40% chance to save, and a 70% chance to suffer no more than a hit (i.e., only a 30% chance to get stunned). Add in Hero Points, and I'm not sure why he'd be going down and out from a single hit.

Sorry. I've been arguing M&M over on RPG.net for the last couple of days. :)

I got one vote so far. And that is all the way from Detroit.
I'd play AU if you ran it in the afternoon, but I'd be torn between that and the Angel game.

I don't drink, but I'm all for getting together. Heck, come over and I'll fire up the grill...

Sure, if I get people to play.

Peace and smiles :)

Sounds good.

I'm sure you will get more people in your game.

See, you might even get Buzz in your game. What more could you ask for?! :D

It didn't help that he couldn't roll worth a darn, either. :) My group didn't enjoy the static numbers involved with combat. Like most red-blooded (or is that Dew-blooded) gamers, they wanted to roll for damage. They wanted to have a bit more randomness to combat so that the mediocre attack guy could roll max damage and save the day vs. "I hit again for 4 points and am ineffective".
Also, the artificial Power rank limitation prevented certain popular types of characters at normal levels of play. I prefer to use GM approval as my safeguard vs. over the top characters instead of across-the-board limitations.
So, mainly my choice of SAS d20 vs. M&M is preference. I own both and just feel M&M is too over simplified for my tastes.

What is the argument about? One game vs. another or rules interpretation?

I've reserved a spot for you in the afternoon, Halma. Given the traffic so far on this thread, you may want to simply choose whichever game you'd like to run most. I'd imagine you'd get a slew of people to sign up for an Eberron game, though.

Ok Buzz, That sounds like a plan.. Make mine the Eberron game in the evening slot.

--I will provide the PC's for the game, and I will post their backgrounds here...

There's randomness there, it's just on the receiving end rather than the giving end. FWIW, there are variants in the book that flip things back around.

What types did you feel it prevented?

Okey-doke.

Like I said, I've been on a M&M roll from arguing about it at RPG.net. I can't speak to SASd20, as I only have the TriStat version. I prefer M&M to that version, though I hoenstly prefer HERO over them both. :)

Done! Cool.

As for the PC backgrounds, I'd save them for the actual sign-up thread. Right now, how about the write-up of the event as you'd like it to appear there?
