Jonathan Goldstein and John Francis Daley will be directing the film which features "an ensemble cast and take a subversive approach to the game."

Chris Pine has closed a deal to star in Dungeons & Dragons, the live action film based on Hasbro’s massively popular role-playing game from Wizards of the Coast. Hasbro/eOne and Paramount are jointly producing and financing, with eOne distributing in the UK and Canada, and Paramount the rest of the world.

based on hickmans picture on another thread are we at least 50% guess this is dragonlance and maybe the lawsuit was profits on it
The Hickman lawsuit is explicitly about a series of novels that were partly written and WotC cancelled in a way that wouldn't invoke a kill fee. If a movie was part of the lawsuit, it would have been mentioned.

I think it's very unlikely that this going to be a Dragonlance movie, for multiple reasons.

I think it's very unlikely that this going to be a Dragonlance movie, for multiple reasons.
Not least of which is that it sounds like they're aiming for more of a light-hearted movie. Dragonlance is anything but lighthearted.

You are correct from what we know its novels however it could include other things-the other thread is speculating that sony/joe manganiello were involved in settling that lawsuit. Why would they be involved if it wasn't movie related

No, it couldn't, because that would mean a lot more money was on the line, and so it would have been mentioned in the lawsuit.
