Class that would complement a Scout/Ranger, Barbarian, Cleric and Vampire

Alright new development. Let me post my correspondence with the DM.
Psion is 5 levels of erudite and 5 levels of thrallherd. I am assuming that he will likely have dominate and focus on it. Also, being an outsider might be overkill (you are still allowed as long as its from any of the books we are using) , since i like your idea where players will automatically fail when they try to dominate each other unless they are out of control (like if Barbarian is in a frenzy).

Now, all I'm asking is if it would be outrageous for the DM to state this as a house rule. If so, then disregard his advice. I don't want any of you to feel like I was wasting your time if the DM simply makes a house rule that renders the necessity for anti-dominate character designs obsolete. I think the main benefit of having that as a rule is that it emphasizes the importance of the party working together toward a common goal, rather than fighting amongst each other. In these particular circumstances, I would lean towards saying that the party is too immature to benefit from the added challenge and potential of having realistic alignment-driven clashes of opinion and ideology. Of course, it might be more interesting for a mature group of players to make room for internal conflict. Perhaps that day will come =]

It is within the DM's rights to prevent interparty conflits.

Edit: Also, if you are an outsider I strongly advise you to have some method of Polymorphing if the thrallherd starts making trouble.

if the thrallherd starts making trouble.

If you would just elaborate on what this "trouble" might possibly entail, so that I could research specific aspects of the character.

I find it strange that the person would select a class that gives psionic dominate at a later level than the psion class, especially considering that dominate is the players (albeit pathetically inferior, if we note Streamofthesky's last post) main focus.

Trying to kill you.

The leadership potential is the main attraction of the class, iirc. And it is powerful.

That's nice if the DM makes the party immune to his dominate. Just in turn don't be a jerk yourself then. I'm sure you're not one, but I do have to look at things from the other player's perspective. If the DM banned my main ability from affecting the party, but did nothing to make us immune to each others swords and evocation spells and then a party member instigated trouble and started attacking me... I really can't do justice how pissed off I would be and how much it would look like the DM screwing me over and leaving me defenseless.

Sorry, but felt it needed to be said. If the DM's going to do that for you, then no matter how annoying you find his character, the least you can do is play nice yourself.

...Why do I feel like i just gave a public service announcement?

Well I don't really think that needs to be said. IM NOT THE one planning to f*k around with the other players' gameplay. nuff said.

Im not mad though. :p

Thanks alot for the help.

I think the DM might just instigate a meta-rule called "don't jerk around your fellow players" and call it a day. That way it applies no matter what characters are in play.

That said, the vampire-now-psion might simply have fun sending hordes of minions to deal with his enemy (or a few really buff henchlings, or a combo of buff henchlings and hordes of minions). If that is his thing, then fine.

Figure out what your thing is. What do you want to do during encounters (and out of them too) that is fun for you? Talk with the other players to see how you can help them do their thing, and how they can help you do your thing. And reaffirm the "let's not screw each other over" part.

Give this method a chance first. It will save you a lot of time if they respond as fellow players in a positive way, without you having to think of what their character might do to yours.

And that will make it easier for you to murder them when their guards are down.

^ win

The psion had the gall to be complaining about exactly what Streamofthesky anticipated. Kudos to Stream for his divination roll. :p

tell me why I'm trying too hard to like this person.
