Cleric Looking to go EPIC..help?

First Post
Hey all,

I have Cleric of Mask LVL 14, and am looking into planning his future. We have decided to keep playing right into Epic Levels and so far my character planning has been pretty crappy so I thought to go to this great site :) and find out if i can get some help.

Here is what my current character looks like right now, can someone help me guide him into becoming a better character for the future. He is more of a spellcaster than a fighter at the moment(the way I like to play him anyways).

Here goes:
Human Cleric LVL 14 CN
Stats:
STR: 16 (20 with wonderous item)
Dex: 14
Con: 10
Int: 8 (Yuck!)
Wis: 20 (26 with wonderous item)
Cha: 16

Hit Points 92 (low con :( )

Very low skill points (2 per level cause i am a human...low int -1, so slow progression)

Feats:
Combat Casting
Improved Init
Scribe Scroll
Craft A&A
Craft Wonderous Item
Leadership (free Feat from DM)
Reach Spell (Next level i woudl like to take Divine Reach, so i can get some use out of the feat, cause right now, i don't use it at all).

I Rebuke instead of Turn Undead.

There you go, any ideas on what i can do for the future. I would very much like to take Divine Feat (Reach) on the next level, but then my next feat is at level 20 (ouch..i know bad plannign so far).

Any help would be appreciated....what can i do to take this not so up-to-par character and make it better?

Thanks!

Alex

You will need metamagic feats in the Epic levels, begin to take some, empower, extend, quicken are good for the future.

I agree with Feadin. Also, 8 Int? Your character can't even speak correctly. Next time you get to add an ability point (4 levels from now, if I'm not mistaken.) add one to Int, to eliminate that -1. (It'll be +- 0, but that's better than subtraction.) Anyways, you might want to choose a weapon and Weapon Focus it, if you find that you are having to worry abotu melee more and more, items that'll increase your Charisma and Wisdom, since you find yourself a spell caster, and wisdom will make your spells better while Charisma will make them harder to resist, plus Rebuking Undead Minions is great... trust me. (Funny story: I was playing a game with my older brother, he sucked as a DM so where does he send a level 15 Neutral Evil Cleric? To a graveyard. I should've been called a Necromancer instead, because with all the Undead I owned after that mission... heheheh.) Anyways, moving right along. Decide what spells you'd like and go for stats (through items or enhancement) that'll make those better. All in all, i'd be able to help you more if you were a "Crusader", a Cleric who's more militant plus uses turned and less spellsy, because that's the type of Cleric I play, but other than that, I can't get you much better advice.

Uhmm.....Sorry, Cartigan, but: Ignore Cartigan's advice!

You are a Cleric. Clerics require high Wisdom. Continue placing your level bumps into Wisdom.

As for what to do going forward: Start raising these 2 skills as fast as you are able: Spellcraft and Knowledge(religion). You'll need these for Epic Spellcasting. ...Do you have a copy of the ELH? Look it over, especially the feats and spells sections.

Thanks for advice so far. Does anyone know of any items that boost Skill points (spellcraft and knowledge Religion ofcourse). Cause of my low INT score, have many skill points attributed as it is. Putting a few in every level isn't going to get me very far. After Divine Feat (Reach) what do you recommend I get as a progression for the next feats...example, do I get Highten then quicken feat etc...

Thanks again for your time guys...

Items won't necessarily help, as Epic Spellcasting is (in part) based on ranks in the two skills. Again, please read thru the ELH re: feats & spellcasting. For example, feats may have prerequisites of X ranks in a certain skill. Your best bet, right now, is to put your skill points (all 2 of them!) in Spellcraft and Know(religion) each level.

It honestly depends on what your PCs strengths and focus is right now. I'm afraid with your limited write-up, it's difficult to tell.

Are you primarily a spellcaster (rather than melee)? What do you often use your spell casting for? (buffing, self-augmentation, blasting, battlefield control, healing, etc.)

For example:
I currently play a Clr 19 with the Sun and Luck domains. I focused on being a great Summoner for the first 12 levels, then focused on party buffing and utility for the last 7 levels. The feats I took advantage of include Domain Sponteneity, Divine Power, and Divine Metamagic (I took Quicken first!). At my present level the Quicken has been the most helpful, as my summoned monsters have lost some of their effectiveness.

Clerics don't get many feats. Wasting feats on things you may only do once every few session is not worth the opportunity cost. IMHO, Divine Reach falls into that category.

Do you mean Divine Might?

I have to choose a new feat for my human cleric of Fharlanghn. He'll likely turn level 12 next session. Currently I have Lightning Reflexes, Improved Turning, Maximize, Craft Wand, and Divine Metamagic. I'm considering Extra Turning and Scribe Scroll.

I kinda wish I had taken quicken instead of maximize (seems like something Fharlanghn would support), but a maximized searing light worked really well against an undead enemy, and I just used a maximized flame strike against a beholder and some desmodu.

Improved Turning has been useless so far.

Epic spellcasting isn't that great. Unless you are going past level 30 I wouldn't waste skill points trying to catch your spellcraft up. The 'cool' uses of epic spellcasting require a higher spellcraft than the 24 pre-requisite. You won't get 30 ranks of spellcraft until you are level 27 anyway. So don't bother working toward any feats that have spellcraft prerequisites if you haven't already been keeping it maxed... or assume you won't need it until you are near level 30.

Focus of epic feats that don't require spellcraft. Improved Spell Capacity, Great Wisdom, or Quicken and then Multispell. I like quicken for any caster, but especially for clerics. There are a lot of low level spells that either scale nicely or maintain usefulness to high levels that lend themselves to quicken. Improved spell capacity is nice to quicken spells you normally wouldn't be able to.

If you get your spellcraft up to 30 by level 30, then I'd go for Automatic Quicken, if not the elevated spell slots will be next best thing.
