CoC: Delta Green. I need some info

Dagger75

I have a few questions about Delta Green from the Call of Chutlu world.

1. Is it a governemet organization know by a very select few or does it operate outside the government.

2. Do the members of Delta Green know there is some strange stuff going on or do they just get contacted at when the need arises.

A brief history would be pretty cool.

Thanks

The short answer: Delta Green is *currently* an unofficial, illegal conspiracy within the US Government. Its existence is known only to its members and a VERY select few.

2. Do the members of Delta Green know there is some strange stuff going on or do they just get contacted at when the need arises.

The members are aware of the "strange stuff" - DG's purpose is to combat and protect the citizenry of the US from paranormal threats (i.e. the Mythos ans other paranormal organizations).

A brief history would be pretty cool.

A VERY brief history:

DG's origins can be traced back to the government raid on Innsmouth in February, 1928. Its remained a sanctioned government agency until 1969, when during the Vietnam War a botched operation in Cambodia ultimately caused the disbanding of DG, and cessation of government funding of the agency. In 1970 is was re-organized in it's current form by its members, who realized that the agency was necessary to fight the paranormal threats the government couldn't.

"What branch of the government do we report to?"
"None. They ask too many questions."

In some respects its like the Freemasons. They have connections with a lot of people in influential people. So even though they don't have any official status, they can often call on a lot of official help, but under the table.

IIRC one of the reasons why DG is not a higher profile organization is that MJ12 (Majestic 12) has made contact and agreements with the Greys. Who are in the DG mythology are actually servants of one of the Cthulhu Mythos beings (I forget which, Possibly Azathoth). DG works against creatures like the Greys and so is in conflict with MJ12 to a certain extent. Though there is a certain cold war detant between the two as in "You don't kill our guys and we won't kill yours." Both groups have an interest in keeping things quiet with regards to the greys and other Cthulhuoid entities, though for opposite reasons. So there is also a certain tacit cooperation as well. MJ12 might cover up the aftermath of a DG operation for example.

A google search should give more info on the various conspiracy theories and stories associated with MJ12, which figures prominently in a lot of the real world UFO conspiracy theories.

DG people tend to be recruited from those who have had contact with a Cthulhuoid entity. Where possible for obvious reasons they try to recruit those who have useful positions or skills.

As I recall, most of their resources are illegally and clandestinely diverted from the US Gov't. Delta Green agents could be FBI, ATF or even something as mundane as IRS. Predictably, many of their number are slightly errr...on the edge (occupational hazard).

There are "friendlies" who help DG agents, but have very limited knowledge of the nature of the organization or the breadth of the conspiracy.

True. And the cool thing is since the organization is grouped into anonymous cells, the members of one cell would not necessarily know the members of another - even if they're working in the same agency.

The greys are constructs created by the mi-go.

I am not sure if this is what prompted your question but it looks like DG will be rerelased soon, according to the latest issue of Previews (which shows off upcoming comics and gaming stuff).

In hardcover, and with d20 conversions no less.
