Complete Divine Excerpts - good news for Greyhawk fans

I loved the idea of prestige domains. Pity that little to nothing was ever done with them. I figure that WotC R&D came up with other crunchy rules ways to evoke the same "feel" for clerics... like the exclusive spell lists for clerics in the Player's Guide to Faerun.

I think Prestige Domains got quickly crunched by their poor balance in DotF. Oh, and the Contemplative likewise. "I am a contemplative. I know not how to fight... but I have the Celerity domain and can kill you now!!!" Hmm.

Cheers!

You don't have to use the Frenzied Berserker either. However, WotC insists on printing nearly unusable material in the "Complete" books for unfathomable reason.
True but that was the same for the other "splat" books before 3.5 Now at least they theme these books better to be much more than a collection of feats, spells, magic weapons, and prestige classes. I can live with one or two weak or unmanagable pr-classes in a book that makes players try to make their characters have some kind of theme.

Truthfully I hated prestige domains. They never made sense. Now if you have initates as per the Player's Guide to Faerun, that's fine. But that should ONLY work in Faerun IMHO.

So they flip flop. Big deal. It's not like they have to be one or the other...

Eh, it's not like you HAVE to use the darn class. Personally I'd just keep the other stuff.

It's not like you HAVE to respond to the slightest critical opinion with an attack of obtuseness. Maybe sleep deprivation is just making me touchy, but it seems rude to be dismissive of people's opinions that way :\

Of course domain powers don't have to be consistent, but it would be nice if they were. Of course PrC's don't all have to have useful, meaningful abilities but it would be nice if they did.

Enough with the "big deal" cracks already. Obviously if people don't care for the content they are free to take or leave it, but expressing disappointment and voicing criticism are still perfectly reasonable reactions.

Indeed it's not like you have to respond either. And I think you are sleep deprived. Besides if I'm being dismissive of your opinon, it's not like you have to read it either. Ignore. It's a great feature.

Trying to equivocate your behavior as being no worse than mine isn't going to hold water. Obviously, responding to rudeness is much more reasonable behavior than initiating rudeness.

The obligation of civility is upon you--at least here at ENWorld it is (an obligation I am making the effort to meet with you at this moment). It is not the exclusive burden of the civil people on this board to find a way to filter out snide remarks, so that inconsiderate people can say whatever crosses their mind.

In short, be nice.

What I am very skeptic about Complete Divine are the PrCls. I bet it will follow the trend of Complete Warrior, which means a lot of 5-levels prestige classes, which is a very bad idea.

Having read this excerpt, I'm quite thrilled at Complete Divine. If I hadn't planned on buying it anyway, I'd be resolved on picking it up after that article!

The fact that they're dusting off some older stuff is nice. I know it can seem annoying to be buying the same material again, but I'm glad they're consolidating a significant amount of it in one place.

The sections on "fluff" seem almost worth their weight in gold. That except from chapter 6 was something I've wanting to see for a while now. Finally we're getting the dynamics of how things world in a fantastic world! There are great role-playing possibilities with things like knowing that the soul remains where the body died for a few seconds, or that some undead can perceive the memories of the spawn they create.

Finally, I'm jazzed that they're giving the nod to more of the old Greyhawk deities. I'm always in favor of updating material from previous editions, and them giving new info on the old GH gods is more than welcome. The only thing I'm miffed about is that the domain listings are split between "Core deities" and "Other deities", that seems unnecessarily derogative to those other GH gods...it's not like the group in the PHB are in any way better, stronger, or more distinctive.

I am not sure... On one hand, if you play 3.5 it is important to have a revision over the 3.0 material, at least to be more confident about being using material appropriate to the current rules. On the other hand, you may not need to re-buy the same material twice, just take a look at how the class or feat was revised and use it.
