Complete Divine Excerpts - good news for Greyhawk fans

BTW, I may be the only person on earth who actually was glad to see stats for gods in Deities and Demigods...

only if you want to use those stats to fight the Gods...

i happen to agree with Tim Kask's assessment back in 1976 in the foreword of Supplement IV.

when Odin has 300hp it is hard to take the Monty Haul campaigns seriously. :p

I think the Entropomancer is more a villainous PrC myself.

I mean, it's one thing to have a PC use a Sphere of Annihilation. It's quite another to have an evil organization find one, and attempt to use it, while the PC's scramble to find a talisman that can perhaps usurp control.....

It makes an interesting adventure, I'd say! :)

Hmmm... I wonder if Visage of the Deity / Lesser VotD / Greater VotD are renamed Aspects of the deity ? Perhaps there will be more Aspects (monster type) in the book, so the spells are re-named to avoid some confusion.

Quite likely. I don't think there'll be new aspects, however - though it's a type of monster I wouldn't mind seeing more of. :)

Cheers!

Yes, but not just fight them...also to interact with them, role-play with them. I have never liked the tendency for DM's to play gods as if they can do anything and can't be harmed by even the toughest of PCs. Mythology and other fiction is replete with stories about mortals fighting, outsmarting or in other ways besting the gods, stats and abilities are an effective and fair way to make that a (remote) possibility.

And the stats given in D&Dg are well done and interesting. the power difference between a divine rank 1 god and a divine rank 15 god is at least equivalent to the difference between characters of levels 1 and 15.

The book is so well liked by me and the group I run that we are about to start a divine campaign, with the players playing gods; defiantly not something I could do without stats for the gods extant.

The preceding is, of course, IMO.

As an FR fan I have to say its likely that Im going to pass on Complete Divine

The PRC

The ENTROPOMANCER might seem like a likely candiate for House Karnok in Chessenta but theyve already got there own PrC in LOD (and HK are not a huge organisation)

The Divine World

WHAT HAPPENS AFTER YOU DIE, This is not alot of use, as the Afterlife is completely different in the FR, we have the False and Faithless, unbelievers are not sent to the there Alignment plane (as they no longer exist in the FR cosmology)

Domains and Spells

A few of the Domains are useful

The Madness domain could probably go to Cyric (all though its debatable whether its applicable any more as hes no longer mad)

Mind Domain probably a good one for Illesine and maybe Oghma

Mysticism domain: judging by the spells this could go to any deity

Oracle domain: Savas

Pact domain: Tyr/ Torm and maybe Ilmater

Pestilience: Talona & Yurtus

Purification: Lathander

Summoner Domain: Mystra and Azuth

Weather Domain: none really, Talos has the Storm Domain and its a much better fit then Weather, The Winter domain found in Dungeon magazine is a better choice for Auril, which leaves us with Umberlee and there arent any Water/Ocean type spells in the Weather Domain.

All up its not looking good

Yes, well FR has been extremely well supplied with its own divine sourcebooks and material. So, I guess it's not a surprise that Complete Divine won't be as useful.

:)

Cheers!

I get the Feeling that it would have been more accurate calling CD Faithes of Oeorth

Oerth, you heretic! :)

Actually, there are plenty of domains there with no deities attached, so it's not purely Greyhawk-based.

Cheers!
