@herald
I appreciate the help... but I'm still having the same difficulties =( I'll go ahead and post my current log, in case I missed anything...

Thanks again for everyone's help so far! I really don't care to back up all my stuff and reformat, so you guys are doing me a big favor =)

Looking at that output you posted from Hijack unless you've chosen an obscure search page/engine for EVERYTHING you've been... hijacked by spyware. Don't know how good spybot is but I'm very happy with results I've gotten from AdAware. I assume they're reasonably similar.

Purchase and run a virus checker. I'd recommend McAfee over Norton. Do not EVER EVER EVER run your computer again without virus protection regardless of what you find. Times being what they are it's just foolish and it may account for your problems.

Do a system restore to a save point PRIOR to seeing your problem if you can.

When all else fails - back up your data, reformat your hard drive and reload the OS and everything else. Then learn from the experience. Be VERY proactive about virus and spyware detection and removal. It still won't give you immunity - if they want you they WILL find you - but it'll cut the probabilities WAY down.

Run AdAware, and then run an updated antivirus. But this doesn't sound like a spyware/virus problem to me. I think it's more likely that windows has screwed up some setting, probably the DNS since IM services seem to work normally.

So, after you've eliminated any spyware or viruses, try ping www.google.com from a command prompt; if it pulls out a numerical IP address somewhere in the output, then the DNS is ok, otherwise it's probably wrong. You should check the DNS settings and make sure that they are what your ISP needs them to be (99% of the times, "obtain DNS automatically"). DNS settings can be found in the TCP/IP properties, which can be found by rummaging in the properties of your connection.

If you do get a numerical IP address and still you can't browse www.google.com, you've got some weird problem. Try to telnet the address on port 80: open a prompt and run "telnet www.google.com 80". If the window goes black with just a blinking cursor on the top left, your browser is screwed somehow but the network is working. If you get an error message instead, your browser is probably OK and there is a network problem.

Anyway, after you've cleared up spyware and viruses, I suggest you phone the ISP's tech support. They are there for a reason.

Try going Tools ==> Internet Options ==> Connections ==> Lan Settings

Under Proxy Server make sure "use a proxy server for your lan" is unchecked.

Try the ping that Grazzt suggested, anyway. It's possible that your HOSTS file has been utterly corrupted or screwed up. If you can ping Novell (or whomever) then HOSTS is fine, but if not then I or someone else here can run you through how to fix your HOSTS.

Unfortunately, I didn't get to try out those final steps about pinging.

Fortunately, my girlfriend surprised me with a new computer, so my woes are still resolved :D

Thanks to everyone for helping out! It's almost sad to know that better help can be found on a D&D site than on a computer troubleshooting site...

Sorry that I lost touch with you. I had a bit of a medical emergancy last thursday and had to go into hospital to remove my appendix. Just now getting back into the swing of things. Glad to hear about your new computer.
