well here it is!
time to vote for your pick for the name of my new d20 product.

on a whim, about 18 months ago, i designed what became the most useful gaming tool that my group never knew we needed. and after all this time, i've decided to introduce it to the gaming market at large. and you get to have a hand in the development process.

the device, though simple looking, allows you to easily keep track of everyone's inititative during a combat round, and the number of rounds that combat takes. in addition, it's also designed to seemlessly accomodate adjustments for refocusing, readying, or delaying actions. until you use it, you'll never know what you're missing :)

Contest Rules:
  • title submission deadline will be Saturday June 21st, @ 8:00am EST
  • after submission deadline, the list will be thinned to between 10 and 25 submissions and a poll will be taken to find the best 3 names
  • voting deadline will be Tuesday June 24th, @ 10:00am EST
  • winners will be announced in the General RPG Discussion forum by Wednesdy June 25th, @ 12:00pm EST
  • there will be three prizes awarded, to the top three most popular names.
  • should the same person win more than one spot in the top three, the 4th most popular name will recieve a prize, and so on.
  • prize will be a free copy of the product upon release.

the original thread can be found here. a big thank you to all those who made submissions to this contest and, good luck to all.

Whee, first vote! Do I get a prize for enthusiasm? ;)

I voted for "Init to Win It" just because it makes me laugh; "Init" as an abbreviation of "initiative" is still pronounced "inish", so seeing it as made to rhyme with "win it" is just so funny I had to vote for it. :D

Can't wait to see the finished product!

time for some honourable mentions. those who didn't make the list but were still cool.

Tyris Harmon Who's Turn Is It Anyway?
i liked this one, in fact, i'd thought of it myself, but wondered if there wouldn't be people who'd miss the reference. turns out the name was too long anyway. good job tho Tyris!

LazarusLong42 Intuitive Initiative
geezerjoe Time Tracker Two Thousand Two ... or TTTTT
kudos for the alliteration :D

KaeYoss I.N.I.T. (I couldn't come up with something good to match that abbreviation - maybe Individual Nonexpensive Initiative Tool. Or something)
yeah, i couldn't come up with anything cool either *shrug*

Paladin Smart Initiative
sepcial mention for Paladin, who is helping me secure a spot to sell from at a booth at GenCon. without his help, i wouldn't know where to turn. you rock!

hafrogman I'nit Nifty?
this name was just too cute for it's own good ;)

Bagel Golem T.I.M.E. - The Inititiative Measuring Essential
Bagel Golem Who Goes Device (pronounced "Hugo's Device"?)
very nice submissions, both. the second one would have worked perfectly ... had my name actually been Hugo :p

Lalato mINIT Man
awesome job on the pun, but really, do i actually want to be associated with a title like that?

Spider The Tacti-turn
another very cool title

and my absolute faourite pick for funniest title:
Spider The Lewinsky (prounounced "The In-Turn")
that one still has me cracking up :D

again, thanks to all who submitted ... well, submissions

negz, i notice "improved initiative " is still an option, has there been a breakthrough?

yep, i recieved another email from WotC allowing me to use it. since i'd already started the contest, i decided to simply add it to the list. i'm still going to award the top three finishers, but Improved Initiative, is of course exempt from prize winning. (the next three will still get the prize.)

I like the idea- is it different from the one offered by the Games Mechanics, though?

yes it is. this isn't a card set. it is a chart inside a special laminate that allows for both dry and wet erase markers. it's much easier to keep track of things, and change things. and you don't lose the initiative order if you knock mine over :D a much better system IMHO. but of course, you might think i'm biased :D

Sweet! An honorable mention AND one in the finals. I liked alot of the other submissions as well. The people on these boards are just Waaaayyyy too creative!

although it won't let me vote again (why are there always problems voiting in polls? i just voted in one this morning, why cant i now?)

the results so far are proving what i've been trying to tell neg z and the rest of our group all along..

always go along with MY original idea, even if wotc sometimes says its against the rules.

:-)

Well... you know I had to vote for myself. Probably the only vote that one will get... Keep INIT. :)

As for Minit Man... think of it as in the American Revolution when a Minute Man had no sexual overtones. ;)
