Corrected 3.5 PHB

I don't think most companies boast new printings.

It's just not done.

If it's a new printing then they can say they fixed minor errors. If they advertise it, people think the first printing was just grossly wrong and complain.

As far as I know, TSR and then Wizards have made corrections in every new printing of the PHB. The first time they ever made an announcement about it was when they first printed 3.5.

*bump* of this topic, as I'd like to figure out if this 2nd printing is now commonly found at most FLGS's now or not.

See, I've held off on upgrading to 3.5 before a hypothetical 2nd printing of the PHB appeared, and it looks like this has happened. No FLGS makes this a bit tricky, though. My mainstream bookstore still has first printings, and I don't want to order a 3.5 PHB online and end up with a first printing after waiting this long.

This means I gotta travel a fair distance to get to some gaming places where I can physically inspect PHBs before I buy... so I'd like to get a feel for whether I am likely to come across a 2nd printing of a 3.5 PHB if I make such a journey in the near future, or if I should wait a bit longer for these 2nd printings to work their way onto more shelves. So then, have YOU seen a 3.5 PHB 2nd printing in your gaming store?

WOTC seem quite good at making errata available and integrating it into their print runs in a reasonably timely fashion; TSR were somewhat spotty at it. E.G, the 1st ed. PHB had numerous printings that never corrected any of the known errata, even years later (see http://www.acaeum.com/DDIndexes/SetPages/PHB.html for details), but the DMG had errata which was incorporated quite quickly in its printing history (http://www.acaeum.com/Library/ErrataDMG.html).

Depending on the company - I've seen many paperback novels proudly proclaiming things like, "Now in 11th printing!" and so on.

Can you call ahead to the shop and see if they will check for you? Pretty easy for them to do if you catch them at a slow time and an easy sale for them if they have it. Might save you the trip.

True but novels are quite a different market. Rarely do they fix anything, just reprint as is or just change the info on the printer/copyright page and covers. Heck, they rarely fix errors/typos when they go from hard to paper back or club editions (they sometimes just add new ones instead).

TSR made corrections along the way, but didn't catch some things. Also, they made the corrections they could easily fit into the same format. Remember, back in the days of 1E, everything had to be type-set, it wasn't on computer.
