Could we have a forum for just rules discussions?

It's becoming painfully clear that we need some more forums added to this venue. Namely:

1) "X is broken!"
2) "Please rate X"
and
3) "Let's all talk about 3.5."

I can maybe see how "Everything is broken!" falls under rules, but the others really have no place in this forum and just serve to push real rules discussions off of the front page all the sooner.

Now that I think about it, maby a forum titled "In my opinion" would cover all three of the above. :)

PC, can I take that to mean that all those things are valid to discuss here in the rules forum?(since there all about rules..?)

X is broken - as long as X is an official rule than it belongs in the Rules Forum. If however, the poster is looking for a fix for X, then it should go to the House Rules forum.

Please Rate X - as long as X is an official rule, then it belongs in the Rules Forum. People should not not post things like X is too powerful, this is how I nerfed it; that stuff should go to House Rules. I will make more of an effort to reign in 'my posts' and ask people to stick to the rules as written and take it to House Rules if they want to discuss 'changes'.

Lets all talk about 3.5 - probably more appropriate to General. I vote to move these to General, because until they become Official, they ... well ... aren't 'Official'.

I agree that the Rules Forum has gotten out of hand recently. In particular I am talking about threads that ask for 'fixes' to official rules. These should be moved to House Rules.

Us non-mods can take a stance by politley informing the user of the Official Rule and then pointing them to the House Rules forum if they would like to discuss a 'fix'.

Actually, there have been a recent flood of OT (for rules) topics that should have gone elsewhere. I just moved them. We'll keep an eye open for such things.

That being said, it's *much* more useful to us if you report a post to a moderator and say "Is this thread OT for Rules?" than if you go and post an angry statement in every thread you think is OT. That doesn't really help anyone, OR solve the problem.

I think Smetzger has the analysis correct. I've asked him to slow the "rating" posts so as to not clutter the forum. Hopefully, that will help mitigate the problem.

I'll also throw in the topics that I tend feel oddly about seeing in the rules forum.

- "Help me build my character" (which maybe belongs in a "player's strategy" forum?)

- "Help price this new magic item" (which I believe properly belongs in house rules)

Good suggestion. Maybe some old and less used forums could be merged together to form such a new one?

I don't know, there are OFFICIAL rules about item pricing, but they are difficult to correctly calculate (and one of the reasons why I'm scared of creating my own magic items  ). It's not usually a house rule or opinion what's asked, but rather a help in applying the correct rule.

They are more guidelines than rules for the most part, actually. *shrug*
