Creating Davy Jones (now with Pirates of the Caribbean 3 spoilers)

I think we'll go with aberration. The mind flayer comparison sealed the deal for me.

As for alignment, I can see either LN or LE. He did order sailors who didn't accept his offer to be executed, IIRC. That strikes me as evil.

Now for the million dollar question: How powerful should he be? Jack Sparrow and his crew strike me as roughly 10th level. How about the rest of you?

One last pitch. From the MM "An aberration has a bizarre anatomy, strange abilities, an alien mindset, or any combination of the three."
"Monstrous humanoids are similar to humanoids, but with monstrous or animalistic features. They often have magical abilities as well."

I'll admit aberrations are the "sexier" choice, but monstrous humanoids are more (IMO) reasonable (he clearly has animalistic features and magical abilities, and doesn't have an alien mindset). Monstrous humanoids also have better saves and better base attacks. Yuan ti, kua-toa, grimlocks, and sahuaghin are all monstrous humanoids.

I understand the thought of Monstrous Humanoid, but Aberration really works better. Perhaps I should mention this. His entire crew are aberrations, and when Will Turner cut the one open right before he met Davey, his "guts" which was water and fish came out.

That screams Aberration, not monstrous humanoid. Whatever they are, they are alien. Maybe not in mindset, but in body they definitely are.

Hmmmm, I be thinking that that thar scurvy dog not be overly strong. Perhaps the matey only has a Strength around 12 or 13?

In addition, he hasn't shown suprising Dexterity.

As for Constitution, I'm not sure. The ritual that lead to his heart being removed leads some to think he's got a decent Con score.

His intelligence doesn't seem hugely high either. As for Wisdom, Hmm, Not to sure.

He has one heck of a Charisma.

My stat recommendation
Str 13, Dex 11, Con 18, Int 14, Wis 13, Cha 24

Of course, these stats and his lack of real special abilities means pretty decent HD and the like...

I wish we actually saw Davey fight....That might help us...

Maybe in Pirates 3 we shall. We'll probably revisit him once its released as we'll certainly gain other insights into him.

I think we should bump the Strength a bit...he does have an oversized lobster arm, after all, which probably has quite the grip. Wisdom seems decent as he is rather perceptive when folks are lying to him. Also, Dex can't be too bad if he plays the piano so well. ;)

How about:

Str 17, Dex 15, Con 18, Int 14, Wis 17, Cha 24
 

Hmm, still, he didn't seem too Dexterous on his peg-like leg. And Perform is Charisma-based, not Dex-based :P

Agreed with the Strength and Wisdom.
