No people did more mage specialization schools? I am in a hurry to create an abjurer to my home campaign and would like some thoughts... Or a custom sorcerer until the official one shows up.

I did up a couple of caster feats as we played our game... something that allowed energy admixture, and allowed the caster to reroll one damage die per damage roll (but had to keep the second result). Worked out nicely.

...
already in the rules: take the feat that gives you one first level spell and chose: "find familiar". You get 2 cantrips on top of it!

I liked how it was converted to a spell, but it never occurred to me how much value you could get out of taking that as your arcane initiate spell. Thanks for pointing that out.

I've started running a houserule that I really enjoy: players can give up their two +1 racial ability score bonuses to take a feat at first level. Humans can only do this once, and half-orcs can choose to give up +1 Str and +1 - leaving them with +1 Str - or give up +2 Str, leaving them with +1 Con.

Benefits of this: Now that players are bound even less by their racial stats, you start to see some really interesting characters. Additionally, it opens up another way for players to make their character feel mechanically unique, which could otherwise be a challenge since many classes don't get their subclass options until 2nd or 3rd level.

Interesting... I use the same house rule here :)
