D&D General D&D 2024 does not deserve to succeed

I am buying 2024 and will be playing 2024 in 2 of my 4 weekly games as soon as the current campaigns end (probably around mid October). The other two will continue with 5E indefinitely.

I've heard great things about DC20 and several of the players and the DM on Monday game also have a DC20 session and they love it. Me I like D&D, I've been playing since 1980 and I see no reason to change.

.... counter-point:

Just going by the title, it certainly could be! Because every "the next D&D killer" is usually just a clickbait title which turns into a DnD heartbreaker. Some of them get more attention because they get huge crowdfunders, often because their creators have large YouTube followings.

DnD is still around despite tons of TTRPGs having their own followings. It has the market presence, even if there are "better" games, DnD is how many people get into TTRPGs simply because they've heard of it and that's what they look for.

It's often the case of other people calling it a DND killer to get clicks.. some like DC20 are trying to make a "better DnD" but many like Draw Steel! are just trying to make their own game.

I went in with an open mind. But by time I got to the end of the Kickstarter video, I had lost track of which points did what and how often. I just didn’t see the point of Melee points, Mana Points, Action Points, Rolled Above Points and other points in a system that supposedly played quickly.

And then the constant and repeated, “infinite combinations” and “infinite customizations” made me quickly realize that they didn’t know what the word “infinite” actually meant.
