[D&D 3.5] War of the Burning Sky [OOC] [Closed]

Hope nobody minds me indulging Arshen's 'preachy, small-minded ass' side a bit. :p

I don't want to offend anyone or make them feel like it's personal, and I don't want to hide behind a shield of 'I'm just playing my character', so do let me know if you feel like *I* - rather than Arshen - am being obnoxious. My intention is to add to people's enjoyment of the game by playing a character who people can facepalm at within the context of the party dynamic. If I'm failing to do that, call me on it. :)

With regard to your idea in the IC thread, HolyMan - it's cool, but I foresee some difficulties. In the first place, as things stand, Arshen actually doesn't have any more religious knowledge than Shaylir (in fact, thanks to a lower Int mod, slightly less). I'm wondering if that is a mistake, and I'm thinking of asking pneumatik to let me switch a couple of skill points into Knowledge: Religion to represent Arshen's basic knowledge of his religion and ability to quote some scripture.

However, even if pneumatik is amenable and I do that (or just put a couple of points into it at next level up), we're still going to be looking at a K:R modifier of +1 or so. Arshen thought of Torrent's comments as presumptious, but the truth is that she probably DOES know more about Cuthbertite dogma than he does, since he's never had any formal religious instruction. All he has is what was handed down from his dad, who was also no scholar. When it comes to other faiths, pretty much all he has is a bundle of preconceptions and prejudices.

So even though Arshen would love the idea of instructing Shaylir, his idea of 'instruction' is unlikely to match with anything that would be tolerable to her. As far as he's concerned, there's just St. Cuthbert and then various shades of Wrong. ;)

Then I'm glad Shaylir is only slightly shaded wrong and he can see she is a good person. Wait till she finds out Arshen is blowing smoke though ouch!! LOL.

I was going to suggest we do it post long IC week. Example:

Dm post: You spend the next several days marching through the uncheerful landscape.

Characte posts: Along the way Shaylir and Arshen get into a few theological debates. Some are heated but mostly they learn a little from each other.

Maybe we still can never know with D&D. :D

Sounds reasonable to me. :) In fact this might be a good justification for sticking those couple of points in Knowledge: Religion next level, as Arshen gets a little knowledge of other faiths through his thick head and sorts out some of his own ideas.

@Holyman Don't worry about initiative order. By the initiative rolls Liiros goes before Shaylir in the current fight. But he could just have delayed until after Shaylir. There may not have been any in-game or tactical reason for Liiros to delay, but it makes the game much easier to run on the boards. It's just much easier and faster if I/we aren't worrying about the specific initiative order.

Good to know, then we only roll initative to see if we go before the monsters and then after that it's back and forth?

Also I did something new in my post (tried to create a new move action tell me if it is ok or not. If not I'll pass the dagger another way.

Hollister is pretty much completely out of spells, and has nothing to contribute to a fight such as this one besides advice. :D

I'm noticing we have a really squishy party. At higher levels squishy characters tend to be glass cannons, so at least the party would have a shot if they killed everyone super-quick in a fight. At level 3, not so much. We'll see how this fight goes.

Rhun, I encourage you to fill your 3rd level feat slot when the party next rests. The party seems to need every advantage it can get.

Rhun: I forgot that when Hollister reached the edge of the road he had to make a reflex save or take fire damage. This is different from the previous behavior of the fire forest flames. I rolled the save (failure) and damage and updated my most recent post in the IC thread. I didn't want to post a new post to keep things less confusing. Resist energy should keep Hollister from taking any actual damage, and he couldn't have caught on fire.

Thanee: Liiros' attack healed Lytha of 4 hps, so she should be conscious at 3 hp now, though prone. Please post even if she's just going to play dead until she has more hps (though energy ray looks like a reasonable action, assuming she can manifest without provoking or something).

Finally, feel free to coordinate tactics in this thread.
