D&D General D&D Player's Handbook PayPal Orders Suffer Processing Issues

According to forum comments on D&D Beyond, it appears that many customers who pre-ordered the 2024 Player's Handbook using PayPal are receiving emails which say that their payments failed to go through.

LaTia Jacquise, the D&D community manager, has asked those affected to file support tickets so that WotC can look into and rectify the issue.

The book's release is on September 17th. For those who pre-ordered the three core rulebooks, it appears that only the Player's Handbook is affected at this stage. Those who pre-ordered the digital and physical bundle were charged for--and received--their digital books previously; the physical portion of the order was charged separately, and it seems that this portion is the one that is failing.

Hey all! (Again, big font for visibility.)

I come with an update on these PHB pre-order cancellations. There were two potential reasons for these cancellations, and we are working to resolve the issues quickly.

The first reason was a tech issue that caused some orders to fail payment processing when shipping started which caused the order to automatically cancel. On September 11th, customers in this category were notified via email that we will attempt to re-process their order after 24 hours with the opportunity to opt-out by contacting customer service.

The second reason was due to payment failure of the original payment method used for the pre-order when shipping started which caused the order to automatically cancel. This payment failure could include things like insufficient funds or an expired card. In this case, customers will be notified today with instructions on how they can re-order the PHB book using an updated payment method.

We’re sorry for any inconvenience but wanted to keep everyone informed as we quickly work to resolve the pre-orders.

I don’t understand what everyone gets from hating Wotc more and more with every transgression.
I want to say that are looking for catharsis or a place to vent or something, but honestly? I'm not so sure. Some folks really seem to be enjoying themselves, as if these rants and arguments are their whole reason for coming here.

Nobody here is going to read a hate-filled rant on ENWorld and change their minds about Wizards of the Coast--we all know that, right? And nobody at Wizards of the Coast is going to read it and decide to change their company policies and practices, either. But plenty of people will agree, and disagree, and want to argue about it.

And that's fine, I guess. We all come here for different reasons, and "making myself angry over something" is as good a reason as any. I'm here for adventure hooks and free maps and cool ideas for my home game (and memes).

People need to vent. Rightfully so, Feel free to ignore mine as well.

So PHB finally on the way. PayPal charged for it cleared, so hopefully I am sorted until the next debacle happens with the other two books (hopefully not, but WOTC’s track record precedes them).

My young relative is an avid D$D player so I switched my payment method to a credit card when my issue occurred, and in my infinite wisdom decided to get him a Digital and Physical bundle as a gift so that should cover during the holidays and beyond. Also he runs a D&D club in his school so that would be nice for him and his schoolmates. Ordered it. Credit card got billed for his digital content fine but I was charged twice for the PHB. I was about to see red and looks like one of them cleared and the other is pending. I really really really hope that one goes away and does not become anothwr reason for me to file a ticket. Fingers crossed.

We’ll see.

I don't live near a FLGS so I rely on the internet for ordering physical gaming products. I have ordered physical products three times from Wizards of the Coast and in all three cases there was a significant of problem of some kind. Although they eventually got around to fixing each problem, they are slow and in one case I didn't receive my product for two months after its release date.

I stopped placing my orders directly with Wizards of the Coast and went back to Amazon for them. They ship quickly, they resolve problems quickly, and their return process is painless.

Say what you want about Bezos or Amazon as a company, but there is a reason why they're eating everyone's lunch.

I'm sorry to hear about the problems with PayPal payments for pre-orders. It's frustrating when transactions don't go through as expected. I recently had a similar issue with another purchase, and contacting support helped resolve it. In the meantime, I was looking for reliable gaming options, I found this and you can check it out https://gambleorb.com/ which offers a variety of online casino reviews with verified payment methods. Hopefully the payment issues will be resolved soon so we can all enjoy the new guide once it's released.
Yeah, WotC’s store is a mess. Amazon might be a corporate behemoth, but at least they deliver on time without the hassle!
