d20 Cyberspace - anyone care to speculate?

I've just noticed d20 Cyberspace in the list of late 2005 releases from WotC. Sure seems like Wizards is a little keener on supporting the d20 Modern / Future system this year. Anyone care to speculate what we might see from this book?

Obviously this will be about how to do Matrix and Neuromancer with d20 Modern / d20 Future. It will probably feature a couple of advanced classes, but I hope not too much, as I would prefer see the pages devoted to more useful stuff as a DM.

I'm tempted to agree with you, Monty, but I suspect that this book's title might be trying to give us the runaround. What if it's a sourcebook for cyberpunk? We might be expecting new weapons, AdvCs, and cybernetics to that sort of tune. I personally would rather see this than an expanded VRNet sourcebook. There's only so much you can detail about Matrix/Netrunning-style gaming.

It could be that they are also intending to tie into what may be a resurgence into the cyberpunk genre.

Mike Pondsmith of R. Talisorian Games is back and doing some of the conventions this year. And is releasing a new book for Cybergenerations.

Just as with the eras they decided to focus on in D20 Past, this is another one that should be titled "D20 Things that Adamant is Already Doing." :D

Our TERMINAL IDENTITY line covers this pretty well. (A gear book is coming soon for that line, by the way)

Going out on a limb here, but probably something to do with cyberspace?

:p

Seriously, I'd imagine that it will be a total sourcebook for inserting Cyberspace concepts into any D20 Modern-system based campaign. Probably have stuff for adventures entirely in a cyberspace environment. Didn't we have something along this line in Polyhedron as a mini-campaign? I think Fantasy Flight also did Horizons line product, if I remember correctly. PCs were essentially "programs" in a 'network.

We'd likely have a more complete list of other cybernetic enhancements. Probably a good description on integrating cyberspace adventures into a traditional campaign.

Alternity's Dataware hit this material several years ago. There's a d20 Future web enhancement that covers the subject, too. And there was Deathnet in Polyhedron last year.

As for d20 Past....WotC did Pulp Heroes for d20 Modern long before your Thrilling Tales saw the light of day. d20 Past also has that cowboy/Victorian era setting...I'm not aware of Adamant having anything like that [though I could be mistaken].

But I'll give you pirates, 'cause that's a fine pirate game you got there, and doing it best is far more important than doing it first. ;)

Yeah, IIRC, some at WOTC said they could either release 2 224 page hardcovers a year for d20 modern, or 4 (or 6?) 96 page softcovers, and they picked the latter so they could cover more ground, subject wise.

Really though, I've rarely seen cyberspace rules that worked well. Usually they just give something for one player (the PC who is the computer guy) to do. So hopefully this is more on cyberpunk in general, than just cyberspace.
