d20 Modern: Over the Edge (recruiting done, but still open)

More detail on my character concept. I'll get to work on some stats. Mickerus, do you want character stats posted here, or e-mailed to you?

Central: British psionic ex-ganger
Side Trait: Street racer (Very clued up on cars, bikes, anything that'll go on the road.)
Side Trait: "Word on the street is..." (He's worked for criminals most of his life, and knows how to find thing out.)
Flaw: Wanted dead :)

Until two months ago, he was working for a London gang. He was mainly there as muscle, but his driving and mechanical skills didn't hurt his employment prospects either. Now he's on the run, having killed his boss as his new "talents" manifested themselves at an unfortunate moment. He's come to the Edge to try and lose his old employees, who now want him dead. Plus this city has enough of a weird reputation that someone might know how he can throw fire from his fingers...

Action points will just accrue in the standard level-up fashion.

Wealth, now... I had to think long and hard about that one, and what I've decided is that I'll give you guys a choice; either you can take 3 as your base wealth and add to it by your starting occupation as usual, or I can roll for you. Anybody that has a trait that would affect their wealth (like Orochi, who took well-funded, or if somebody decided to make "poor" a flaw of theirs) will have their base number adjusted appropriately.

For starting equipment, I'm not really concerned about their expense, just so long as it's kept within reason. Remember, most of you are going to be arriving by plane, so what you'll be taking in with you is going to be fairly limited.

Here's the first draft of my character. Let me know what you think.

It responds to basic stimulus (i.e. it knows when it hits a wall or pokes it. It will grip things if it can wrap a finger around them, and moves by "walking" on four fingers, while the middle finger projects outward as a kind of sensor.

Appearance: Dr. Mailinari is a tall, rather striking woman. She is just over 6 feet tall, and very slim. She is pale skinned for an Italian woman (which is still darker than many), no doubt from spending many days in the lab working instead of being exposed to the sun. Her hair is long and straight, usually pulled out of the way in a casual ponytail. She wears wire rimmed glasses inside, and perscription sunglasses when she goes out during the day. Her clothes tend to be rather messy, as though she hasn't ironed in weeks, unless she is going to a job interview or to present research. On those occasions, she makes sure her clothes are imaculate and she looks every bit the professional scientist. When she isn't presenting, she usually just wears jeans and generic button up blouses, being wholy unconcerned with fashion. She almost always wears a long coat lined with pockets, in which she carries several of her current sub-projects and tools. In the summer, she wears a vest that accomplishes the same purpose. She tends to speak very quickly, and often sprinkles even the simplist conversations with references to obscure scientific theories.

Personailty: Dr. Malinari shifts between an almost bored kind of casualness and hyper-animation. When she is working, or discussing her work, she is quite animate, eagerly discussiong subject after subject at a nearly blinding pace. When she is not, she's friendly enough, but often seems to not be paying attention to what is being said.

Background: Dr Malinari grew up in a family obssesed with death. Morticians by trade, the Malinari's expected Luccia to continue the family business when she grew up, as was tradition. Maybe this familial obsession with death is what prompted Luccia's rebellion, her desire to find a way to cheat death. She worked hard in school, initially intending to be a medical doctor in order to save lives. But her interests quickly took a turn towards the bizzare, as her research led her to texts discussion methods for restoring necrotic tissue, stimulating terminal brain functions, and human bio-electrics. She left medical school and entered into an engineering program, working rapidly to increase her knowledge of electronics and mechincal principles, all the while working on ways to incorporate these pieces into a method to restore life to the (at least recently) deceased. When she graduated, she took a teaching position at a medical school, using her faculty access to enter the morgue late at night and conduct research. While she was never officially caught, rumor soon spread about her night time activities, and she was quietly dissmissed from her position, but with a letter of recommendation for her work (After all, they had no evidence of her work). That letter got her another teaching job, but this one ended quickly as well. This pattern continued for quite some time, until she recieved a letter from D'Aubainne University offering her a position. She knew very little about the island, but her current position was coming to an end in a matter of days, so she jumped at the opportunity.

Hey Mickerus, if you are open to a fifth member, I would like to get in on this action. If Eldorian is going with a mage I would like to pick up the slack with a charming gambler type. I can have stats within a half-day of your go ahead.

Orochi, it looks good (from what I can tell so far), but you left your stats out. Also, what languages can your character speak?

Oh yeah, I realised I had forgotten to give anybody any info about hit points. We'll do max first level, then three-quarters max for each level past that.

ErichDragon, feel free to join up. The group could probably use a "face".

Description: Brandon is an energetic young man in his early 30's. He has light brown hair in the popular ceasar style, with thin sideburns that reach past the bottom of his ears. His eyes are an engaging shade of green and his smile can melt the willpower of the most chaste of ladies.

Background: Brandon "Lucky" O'Rourke is a native of the great city of Las Vegas, Nevada. He grew up on the strip and he knows every angle, con, scam and racket that mankind has ever come up with. Despite this upbringing, "Lucky" is a genuinely nice guy. He has an altruistic streak that gets him into more trouble than his gambling.

Two years ago, Lucky defeated Johnnie Chan and Eric Seidel to become the World Series of Poker Champion. His prize, $1 million in cold hard cash (about $550k after Uncle Sam had his way.) Lucky blew it all in 3 months. He threw a party the likes of which Las Vegas has never seen, and they've seen it all. He then gave away his last $50k to a woman who needed a rare operation for her 5 year old son. Lucky hates to see children suffer more than anything, except for maybe punks who splash the pot, he really hates that! Now all he has left is his gold bracelet and rep to live up to.

Unfortunately for Lucky, he neglected to repay his 'business partners' for the stake they gave him to enter the poker tournament. Lucky still has some credit and markers he can call in, but the men he borrowed money from don't take bank cards and they don't give extensions. Lucky thought the wisest course of action would be to take the first flight out of Nevada that crossed several dozen time zones before setting down. This Al Amarj looks like just the place to lie low for a while...

Mickerus - Since I'm a gambler, go ahead and roll my wealth for me.
