Dark Angel - So, that James Cameron finale...

Well, I've seen a couple 1st season episodes and I have a
question:

The (in)famous James Cameron 2nd season finale, does it
bring some plotline closure or is it a big cliffhanger?

I mean, I understand that since this was not meant to be a
cliffhanger for the series itself, but merely the season, so it
won't answer all the big questions, but does it still, end.
Y'know, kill of a bad guy, resolves some subplots that kinda
thing.

You see, I'm wondering if I should invest any time or money
into this series, but I don't like series that end with a cliffhanger
and no mysteries answered.

As for quality, from what I've seen, it seems to be somewhere
between Charmed (ugh!) and Buffy (yay!) in overall goodness.
Pretty mediocre, but still mediocre fun.

The bad news: it's a cliffhanger ending of sorts, with no final resolution. It was made as a season finale, only ended up being a series finale. On the other hand, it does tie up several plotlines and seems to be a transition to a new phase for the series. I don't want to give anything away, but had there been a third season it would have been quite different from the previous two.

The good news: there's a novel out, Skin Game by Max Allan Collins, that picks up where the series left off and continues on from there. It's a great book, as far as being true to the characters and the series goes. I believe there will be more books to follow as well. (There was also a "prequel" book by the same author that filled in some of the gaps of Max's early life, after escaping from Manticore but before the TV series picks up.)

Bottom line: don't let the fact that the show only ran for two years and doesn't have a nice resolution stop you from enjoying many hours of good entertainment.

Blame FOX executives. When the finale episode was shot, they didn't get any word whether the show is going to be renewed or not. It is after post-production did the announcement came about.

I guess it depends on the viewer. To me, the series finale both tied up many of the loose ends, but left a large opening for more to come.

On a bit of a tangent, I was watching Punk'd on Mtv, where they played a trick on Jessica Alba. Just as they were about to reveal that she was the victim of the joke, the guy playing the joke asked if she'd ever been on TV. In a quiet voice she said: "I used to be." I kinda felt sorry for her in that moment.

Aww. :( You tell Jessica that this Dark Angel fan will never forget her Max character.

Better yet, gimme her address and I'll go and personally console her. ;)
